Today I purchased a new bolt action .270 from academy sports for $179 ($193 out the door). I was just wondering if anyone has had any dealings with these new maverick rifles from mossberg. Looks to me to be a pretty well made rifle. I know that it is not as smooth and slick as a weatherby, but then again, weatherby doesn't sell $179 rifles. This sale lasts until Sept. 24th, but unless they have a truck load of these rifles, they will be out by tommorrow. They sold 4 of them in the time it took to process the transfer. They also come in .243 and 30-06, but they had already sold out of those calibers. I think that these new maverick rifles took the place of the mossberg 4x4 as their starter rifles. Let me know if you have had any good or bad dealings with this particular rifle. I feel as if I got a great deal on a basic rifle. It did come with weaver style scope base already on the rifle. Now I just need to decide on which scope to mount on it.

I bought one of the youth models in 243 for my son. Shot a 1.5 inch group at 100 yards with the Winchester Power Max. I'm actually impressed. Other than the finish and the not so smooth bolt there are no complaints. Made I'n the USA and all for $179.00. Good buy!

Unbelievable for the money. They shoot every bit as well as their 100ATR rifles, they just have a cheaper stock, finish, and no adjustable trigger.
