I am considering a Mossberg 500 security combo.

If I am correct it comes with wood stocks, a pistol grip, a 28in accu-choke barrel and a 18 1/2" cyl bore barrel.

    Question 1 - what does accu-choke mean?
Question 2 - how do those of you that have one like it?

Accuchoke is just Mossbergs name for their screw-in choke tubes. I have a Mossberg and the choke tubes work fine, just a PITA screwing in. I prefer the ones with a knurled ring so they can be screwed in using only your fingers.

oldnamvet, I thought that might be what it meant. Thanks for the info.
Anybody have experience changing the barrels? Is it pretty straightforward?

Changing barrels takes about a minute, and I'm slow.:D Most pump and semi-auto shotguns anymore are fairly easy to change barrels. They are normally made to be taken off for routine cleaning. Both Mossberg and Remington are easy to change.

    Ok, I'll Play...

First, make ABSOLUTELY CERTAIN thare are NO LIVE ROUNDS in your shotgun.

Press the slide relase, and open bolt about halfway. Unscrew the bolt at the end of the mag tube, then remove barrel by pulling straight off. A bit of 'twist' might be needed, but generally pulls strainght off.

Swap on new barrel, tighten the mag bolt, and your are done.

Been a while since I looked at an 870 Rem, but IIRC, the magazine cap comes off completely, while the Mossy 500's are a captive bolt (screw).

Why don't they just thread shotgun barrels? Then you could just screw a choke on much like a sound suppressor for a rifle.

Lyman did just that - looked like poop. Big hunk of steel on the end of your barrel. :)

Mossberg used to make the C-lect Choke, which I guess must be similar to the Lyman. I've got one on an early 80's era 500.
