Friday I stopped by a gun store in Madison, Alabama I've never been to before. I spotted a Mossberg lever action rifle which turned out to be their iteration of the now defunct model 1894AE Winchester .30-30. It looked very much like the old Winnie, except the bolt was more rounded in form, and there was a "bridge" across the rear of the receiver over the bolt. It seemed to be a well made rifle. I forgotten the price (I don't think I really looked) but I really wasn't going to buy it because I have a .30-30 Win. 94AE.
Has anyone here seen one of these Mossbergs, or used one? What are your opinions -- is this a worthy successor to the Winchester 1894?

It's a brand new product.

How would you rate fit and finish compared to your Winchester, or a Marlin 336?

I haven't yet seen one, but it looks like a neat little rifle.

Sample here shoots decent at 100 yards. Stained birch, several MIM internals, bluing good, wood to metal fit better than my two most recent Win 94s, action noticeably smoother.
Trigger block spring overly sprung. Decent rubber recoil pad.
No idea on longevity, but worked fine with several test 170s at 100 yards.
Huge tang safety is annoying in hand.

Henry also makes 30-30 rifles NEW models for 2008.

They weigh almost 9 lbs. unloaded, and if you think the Mossberg is overpriced, you're in for a serious shock when you see the Henry's MSRP.

No thanks.

I may well buy one of the Mossberg .30/30s.
I will have it hard chromed and fit fibreglass 94 stocks if I can get them to work.
I don't own a .30/30 at the moment and should have one but refuse to pay the $500+ people are asking for real Winchester .30/30s

I don't care for Marlins having owned a few, so that suggestion is mute.

I can still get the real thing cheaper than the $400 they are asking for the Mossberg. For now I would pass. The one I handled just did not feel right.
