308 accuracy under $1000
Howdy, I own several 308's and have shot a few rounds over the years. My current tackdriver is a Remington 700 SS with a 5R barrel. It is my second 700 with a 5R barrel as I lost my 1st to a close friend after he shot several groups at 300 yards under 2.0". My current 5R will shoot under 1/2" at 100 yards with several loads. That being said, I also have an Armalite AR 10 match 308 that will do 3/4" at 100 yards, a Remington 700 VS 308 that will do 1/2" with selected loads. My scopes are all Leupold 6.5X20 or 4 1/2 X14. I also have a Remington model 7 308 with a Shilen SS barrel that will do 3/4" at 100 with Nosler 150gr accubond bullets. I have owned Savage, Browning, Howa, Ruger, & T/C Encores and they will all shoot if tuned and fed premium ammo but the Remingtons seem to be more consistant out of the box along with Savage. 308's are great guns and can be used for varmints up to Elk. Yea, before some of you guys start blasting away at me for using a 308 on Elk, the 308 is not my 1st choice but has taken many one shot kills up to 250 yards. Shot placement beats brute force any day. I have also had some experience with a FN rifles and they will shoot 3/4" or better out of the box if fed properly. Good shooting.
