Ruger MKII Target Slab Side

Well...since I have only used one 22lr pistol, I'm not sure my advice will be what you are looking for.

But, my Ruger MKII Target Slab Side was $280 when I got it NIB. First time out with it, my friend and I carved a half dollar hole out of the target in the first couple of clips. So we picked a new area to shoot at and did the same thing. Both of us had equal accuracy with the gun and loved it.

I put a dot scope on it and it became a 22lr laser scalpel.

If you can find a new MKII Target under $400, get it. Otherwise you'll have to go with the MKIII which I'm not a fan of, but should have just as good accuracy from what I understand.

Ruger Mark III, California Ready

The Mark III has a "feature" where it cannot fire without a magazine installed, and it has a "loaded chamber" indicator, and a safety-lock via an allen wrench. Other than these defeats, it's pretty much a good old Mark II. Whether Mark II or Mark III, a Ruger rimfire is a fantastically accurate target pistol. Don't use super-cheap ammo, and it will function perfectly. For best results, I find CCI MINI-MAGS, VELOCITORS, and STINGERS the MOST accurate and problem-free. cliffy

i've got a ruger mk 3 22/45 with a 5.5 bull barrel, at 50 feet with a scope i get 2''+ groups from a rest. only 4 shots per group and i used tons of different match and bulk ammo. i want much better than that, i want a gun that will do at least 1/2" groups.
am i asking for too much at this price?

CCI Stingers

These rounds are super-accurate, if a bit pricey. With my Bushnell Trophy Red-Dot, I can produce one-inch groups at 50 feet quite often. My old eyes don't cotton to open sights anymore. cliffy

OPn average, any of the .22 caliber pistols from either Ruger or Browning aregood choices--relibale and plenty accurate for most people. My buckmark shoots better than I can shoot it, which is enopugh for me

My Ruger Mklll 22/45 is as accurate a handgun as I've ever shot. Sometimes it almost amazes me at ranges out to about 30-35 yards or so. It makes me look a lot better than I truly am.

Lots of fun to shoot. Not so much fun to break down and reassemble for a thorough cleaning.

My old Browning Challenger is hard to beat. Can't hold her steady anymore tho. Have tremors. Old age is hard on accuracy. Can still hit a squirrel head at 30 yds.

The Ruger Mark II 6 7/8 & 10" bull barrels are hard to beat in the best bang for the buck.

Ruger Mark II 6 7/8" Blue Government Target with a 2-7x scope. Bought new 1987. Shooting off a bench rest Best group to date 10 shots of RWS match ammo .990 @ 50 Yards.

Ruger Mark II 10" Blue bull barrel I bought new a few years ago. $289 out the door. Best group to date off a bench rest with iron sights. Is 10 shots 1.6 @ 50 yards with SK match ammo.
