Of these four, which do you all think is the most accurate of the cheap brands of plinking ammo: WWB, CCI Blazer Aluminum, Sellier & Bellot, Federal American Eagle. All are 115gr FMJ. Comments, anecdotes, and tall tales are welcome.

I ask, because I have my CCW class and qualification this weekend and need to bring some factory ammo. Weapon being used is a Taurus 24/7 Pro 9mm 4".

Of the four, I have the most experience with the WWB.

I gave a friend a Benelli 9mm pistol and WWB for Christmas.
Very accurate ammo in a very accurate gun.:)

WWB is accurate in my Taurus PT99 AFS.

I don't like Glocks but sometimes shoot my friend's 17 and 19.
A while back I bought a few thousand rounds of 9mm WWB from Academy.
We were shooting and I asked my friend to let me shoot a magazine of the WWB through his G19 to check for accuracy. Even though I don't like the Glock I give it credit for being accurate.
From 15+ yards the Glock put the WWB in about a two inch group.

As I handed the gun back to him I said, "Not bad for a foreign piece of plastic crap" :D

I haven't shot the Taurus 24/7 Pro 9mm but if it shoots anything like my PT99 it will be plenty accurate enough.
The Taurus does good even with your eyes closed. :D

The WWB also does good in my P38.
Don't you hate it when you have a nice group going and you throw one away.
15 yards.

CCI Aluminium is an abomination, never have I seen a brand of ammo give me more problems. FTF out of spec. I won't buy it any more. That stuff even causes trouble in my wheel gun.

PMC, Fiocchi, American Eagle and Magtech all give about equal performance for me. Winchester follows closely. I haven't had very good luck with Blazer Brass. Seems a bit inconsistant.

Acually, although I voted WWB, I think you have to check them in your particular gun (although I don't shoot aluminum case ammo in any of mine). Most of my guns are more sensitive to changes in weight than manufacturer, although there are some plain old inaccurate manufacturers. For example two of my .40's show a marked preference for 165gr. loads instead of 180's. This holds true in them for plinking loads and SD loads.

The plinking/IDPA loads I usually try in mine are Remington UMC and WWB in 2 or more weights for the caliber. The Remington is just as cheap in the 250 round valu-paks.

I've had two guns (9mm) that were not grouping worth a darn. I'm a good shot so I assumed it was the guns. I was using the WWB in the 100rd packages from Walmart. I switched to UMC 115gr JHP and the they both group really well with the UMC. My FEG HP doesn't mind the WWB a bit and shoots it accurately. Can't really somment on the other brands but WWB seems like it can be finicky in certain weapons.

Walkalong,
I'll bet it's the same gun. Model 76. My friend is tickled with it.

A little side note about that WWB "plinking" ammo.
This is the back of 5 water soaked phone books. Looks like the 115gr 9mm WWB FMJ was still moving out when it came out the back.:D
The S&B doesn't expand at all, so also acted like FMJ.

The books were a very effective JHP bullet stopper. 45ACP JHP only penetrated about 2.5 inches.

If you were qualifying in N.M. at 3 & 7yds, it wouldn't make much difference. Unless you place all the ammo through a secure bench rest, we are speculating....The point: for your CCW qualification acquire the cheapest, in my case: WWB...:)
