308 Winchester

30-06 Springfield

300 Winchester Magnum

Do I miss anything???

How about your Commie cartridges? 7.62x39 and 7.62x54R

They overlap with cartridges on the list already...but you are right...they are very common and deserve to be in any collection.....to be precise, between the two, the 7,62 X 39 doesn't really completely overlap with any on my list....

Addendum to my list

Representative part of the collection for milsurp (rifles)

Springfield 1903

Lee-Enfield

Carcano

Mauser 98

Mosin-Nagant

M1 Garand

M14

AR-15

FAL

AK-47

How reliable?

I think I could very easily reduce the sie of my list. A .22 makes a avery good "surviveable' cartridge, but it wouldn't help me....I couldn't bring myself to skin that little squirrel! So I would start off with a .30-30 lever gun. Next, for anything starting off a little less than my .30-30 (and working on up) I'd have to have a .45-70 Marlin. I'm not a hunter but I'm told that a .45-70 will stop anything on the N.A. continent. For my "urban warefare" weaon I'll take a .308. the AR's are highly thought of, but I just can't bring myself to trust any rifle which comes with a built in de-jammer button! In that catagory I like the FN .308.
