Most underwhelming gun purchase

STI Spartan 1911

I was certain that this was the gun for me, and that I would of course have an affinity for 1911s in general. Good theories both, except they turned out to be wrong (seems to happen to alot of my good theories). The Spartan was sweet shooter, they guy who owned it before me was a competition shooter for a long time and had some contact at STI's factory slick the gun up. It ran great and made small groups, just didn't ever really click with me. I know I probably should have kept it just because it was so well worked over, but I got to where I never shot it, and one day I decided it could best serve me by turning into a different gun.

Oh well, maybe I'll get a wild hair and try 1911s again one of these days.

Ever bought a pistol with the expectation of it being a perfect fit for you? Then found yourself either completely underwhelmed or just luke warm about it within the first couple shooting sessions?
First one that comes to mind is the HK P30, bought it LNIB. Man, it had the perfect feel in hand. Then came the range trip. Jam after jam on the same ammo that my Ruger P95 ate up without a hiccup. :(
Needless to say, I no longer have it.

Pistol-wise, it was a Glock 34. I think it was a matter of expectations being too high. I saw the longer barrel and extended mag release, and thought: "This is perfect!" But I still couldn't shoot that mushy Glock trigger very well at 25 yards.

Overall, it was an SKS. Way too much hype over these. It was another classic case of a reliable ex-military weapon for cheap, with not many other redeeming features. (such as accuracy)

Para Ordnance GI Expert, I have had this out about 5 times now and am just starting to get it to run. Out of the box, it, and what they would call magazines were the worst I have had to experience. Mags were easy to fix, just throw them away. The pistol still needs some work, but is reliable enough not to take a chop saw to it.

Keep at it! They get better and better. They come from the factory pretty tight. It smoothed out nicely, after about 100 rounds. My jams in the first hundred rounds were probably not even all the gun's fault. It turns out my reloads were a bit lighter than I thought they were. I was ready to blame the magazines too, but the factory ones have turned out to be just as reliable as the Chip McCormicks I bought. (that is to say: 100%) The trigger is lighter now too. I probably have 1500 rounds through mine now. At first, I thought I'd get rid of it because it was not as reliable as my old Ruger P90 out of the box. But now that it is broken in, it is much smoother than the P90 ever was, and also more accurate.

Looking at this thread, I see that some folks' most underwhelming guns are generally pretty popular. One size doesn't fit all, I guess.

CZ75B
My first semi-auto pistol. Beautiful duo-tone with graceful lines. I read many positive comments on it.
I could not shoot it. My group was all over the place. Averaged a couple of FTF or FTE per box of ammo. I struggled with that gun for almost two years. I shot it less and my .22 Ruger a lot more. Finally a friend let me shoot his xdm 3.8 9mm compact. Wow! I bought my own and sold the CZ. My groups are much tighter. Over 2000 rounds later I had my first failure with the gun, a light primer strike. First failure. Never a FTF or FTE.
Life is too short to shoot a gun that's not right for you.

who hypes SKS's as being anything but a cheap, reliable semi-auto rifle that's minute of bad guy accurate?

My LGS had a Sig P229 Equinox .40S&W and when I saw it I had to have it.
Unfortunately, it jammed with any and all ammunition and with any and all
magazines. Before anybody says limp wristing, I have a CZ40P, 2 glock 22's,
2 XD's all in .40S&W that I have no issues shooting and they run
flawlessly. It was simply a lemon, so I got rid of it. Too bad it was a
beautiful gun.
