Motorcycle carry

Hi All-

Great suggestion by JJpdxpinkpistols about the Langlitz Leathers jacket. Once you've had one custom-built to fit your body perfectly, you'll ride with no other brand. I opted for the upgraded Padded Pocket Columbia in goatskin (along with riding pants of the same construction) a few years ago and I remain extremely pleased with my investment. Here are some pics of the standard Pocket Columbia model from their web site showing where the leather-lined gun pocket is located:

The folks at Langlitz are honest, hard-working, and courteous. They can size the pocket to accomodate everything from a small revolver right up to a Government-sized .45 ACP. As they like to say, the pocket is "suitable for a paperback book or a gun...depending on what kind of day you're going to have..." It'll go on either side, depending on whether you're right-handed or southpaw.

In my experience an iwb on the hip is alright as long as you have a jacket or vest on to keep your shirt from flying up from the wind. It's not exactly comfortable on long rides (I rode with my makarov to North Carolina, Pennsylvania, and Maine) as it begins to chafe. I find I am much more comfortable with my Kel Tec in a pocket holster. I strongly discourage small of back placement for a ccw as having a lump of metal up against your spine in a crash is a bad thing...nothing like being paralyzed to ruin your day. The jacket carry pocket seems neat but there are many places where you would hang up your jacket and not be able transfer your weapon thus breaking the rule of always controlling your sidearm (especially in the south where it gets hot).

BTW, I have a 1994 Kawasaki Vulcan 1500-A (Sometimes called a BUBF for Butt Ugly But Fast). Any of the rest of you that have Vulcans might want to check out www.vroc.org the web site and message group are full of info on Vulcans (it is the Vulcan Riders and Owners Club) and they have around 13,000 members many of whom are great mechanics and tinkerers.

Ride Safe,

I carry mine OWB strongside, I just tuck the bottom edge of my t-shirt up under the bottom of the holster to keep the wind from exposing my piece while riding.

I carry the same way and I don't have any problems with it showing. I keep it tight and I've never lost the weapon even in a minor spill. My summer jacket is a short Joe Rocket mesh type and the band covers the holster almost completely. Tucking the shirt makes it disappear.

As far as wearing leather in the summer, do yourself a favor and get a real summer riding jacket not a leather sweat box. Mesh/leather jacket combos by Joe Rocket or Alpinestars are awesome. They are comfortable, keep you cool, and offer armor in all the right places. Some people don't like them because they don't look "Harley" but then again, I don't own a motorcycle that sounds like a lawn mower without a muffler, plus mine always starts and idles!

Keep in mind that throttle is right hand. Should you EVER need to draw while bike is still under control, you want that throttle still in hand.

Dude, you know Biker Boyz wasn't real, right? ;)

I ALWAYS wear a jacket, and I don't see what's wrong with a compact piece in the side pocket - it lines up over flab on me, so it's less likely to add a fracture in a fall. Any kind of IWB on a sport bike is going to be uncomfortable, and a risk if you could plant a pelvic bone on it; and SOB is just asking to get paraplegic.

I can't imagine shooting while moving, but it's nice to have a little something handy if you really need it. Wearing leathers feels like a little extra defense against edges and impacts, but it's partly illusory.
