Motorist shoots/kills tomato thrower

Couple of thoughts - The shooter is a local. He was gone for 25 minutes and then returned with a shotgun. Best guess is that he went home to get it rather than get it out of the trunk down the road (this going off of Ohio's ornerous firearm transportation requirements. Most people don't drive around with anything in the car (of course mose people who pay attention to the transportation laws don't go around shooting into cornfields either so I could be way off base)). Then returning and trolling for more tomatos won't look good when he is caught. Send him away for a good amount of time.

What's a 23 year old doing out in a cornfield throwing rotten tomatos at cars in the first place? You would think he had gotten over that 10 years earlier.

I'm not saying its right, but......

I read this yesterday.... I hate that someone got killed..... but what were those people thinking?!?!?! Especially shooting at cars with paintball guns? :barf: :barf: :barf:

What if they had caused an accident, someone could have been killed. Sorry someone had to die, but maybe this will keep people from doing stupid acts such as this.

My belief= When you engage in actions that knowingly break the law you should expect ANYTHING in return..... in this case it was buckshot.

Keim was with about 10 other members of the Amish community, ages 15 to 23. The group told the sheriff's office they had been throwing tomatoes and firing paintball guns at passing vehicles.

I certainly do not agree with shooting somebody for this type of stuff, but throwing tomatos and shooting paintballs at moving vehicles is not an "annual harmless prank" its a highy dangerous crime that could also get motorists killed.

But if people start shooting people for throwing tomatoes, this country's in bad shape," he said.

I will agree with that, but this country is also in bad shape when we have 23 year olds hiding in cornfields throwing tomatos at cars.

"He was a real outgoing person, always willing to help you," Yoder said.

Has any criminal who was shot while committing a crime ever been described as "He was a real selfish person, he was despised in the community, he had not one friend here, even his parents hated him". Just wondering.

Greyhound,
That's the same quirk that results in an investigation report following an aircraft accident that invariably has the Squadron Commander reporting that the mishap pilot "Was one of my best" or "Was a very safety-conscious and skilled pilot."

it's a shame.

but about the amish, i went and stayed with an amish family in adams county ohio. it's not modern devices. the family i stayed with had jets ski's four wheels, and dirtbikes.

It's more just cars and electricity. because they feel that the car, TV, Radio Video games. keeps the family away from each other and really breaks down the family life.

I would love a picture of the horses towing the jet ski trailer :D .

Explained that way it does make some sort of sense. Those things could be used as a family outing.

I have to think that it was wrong for them to be throwing stuff at cars that are passing by. To play the “what-if game†what if the person’s car windows were down and a paint pellet was to strike them in the head, eyes, and ears. That would be very dangerous and could cause a very bad accident or death. My son rides in the car in a booster seat and his head is well above the metal in the car, what would happen to him if a paint ball struck him in the head. I know for sure that I would be very pissed. Yes it may be fun for them, lots o laughs. But it was just a matter of time before the wrong person came through there and then you read about it in the news.

What was that about "an armed society is a polite society"?

Of course one shouldn't shoot anyone for rudeness, but isn't the idea that it becomes a polite society because people fear that someone might do so?

Okay just my two cents but I the shooter was way out of line. I'm not sure what disturbs me more though, that this kind of thing happens in America, or that some people on this board seem to be defending the shooter. The Amish boys did not deserve to be shot. This was murder plain and simple. Lets get something straight: This is America. In America you do not get to shoot people for throwing tomatoes. You do not get to shoot people for pelting you or your car with paintball guns. You do not get to shoot people for stealing your stuff! You do not even get to shoot people when they break into your home!! The ONLY time you get to shoot people is when you have resonable cause to believe the person in question wants to kill you (or someone else) or do you serious bodily harm. I can think of a hundred times where people have done really, really stupid things at my expense. Some of them could have gotten me hurt. But I have yet to shoot anyone. Of course you can say that if the paintballs/tomatoes had obsured the drivers vision etc. the prank could have turned deadly. But when someone cuts me off doing 80mph on 287 that could turn deadly as well. I'm not about to empty a clip into his Toyota. The distinction here is intent. The throwers did not intend to kill the motorist. The motorist intended to kill the throwers. He is the guilty party. There was no excuse for his actions.

agreed.

and that picture would be from the greatest simpsons episode of all time

CPS1,

I'll be over tonight to steal your tv and then shoot your wife and kids with a paintball marker.

Glad to know I'll be safe.

My initial post was just eaten, but it said pretty much exactly what CPS1 said.

I'd also like to add that the murderer fired randomly into a field of 7' tall cornstalks and may have killed someone whose only "crime" was being there.
