I purchased a Golani (.223 version of a Galil) earlier this year. I really enjoy shooting it and it's fairly accurate. But I wanted to go tacticool and mount a rail on top of it so I can mount an Eotech sight. Would a cover from an AK work or should I take it to my gun smith to have it fitted with the rail instead. I've done some modifying to some of my other guns myself and they turned out great. Just looking for some educated opinions.

those cheap ak covers with rails attached suck ! they come off during firing, are loose, & dont fit well. maybe you can get a rail & mount it to the original cover....

Probably not. AK dustcover optics mounts almost universally stink.

The name stamped on the rifle says Golani. The rifle was not made by IMI but by Century Arms. The only difference I can see between the two is the Golani is about an inch shorter than my Galil when stood on the buttstock and the barrell is a bit smaller.

Does it have a rail mount on the side of the receiver? The IMI Galil's I've handled had proprietary rails for mounting, among other things, older style night vision scopes. You might be able to find a mount for one of those and modify it to hold an EOTech, or anything else.

I wonder if an Ultimak couldn't be made to work, somehow.

Don't think it would. The Galil gas tube is pretty dissimilar from most AK gas tubes both in form and dimensions. With the Golanis out there now, however, maybe someone at Ultimak will see a market (or someone else will do the same).

Kind of tricky, since a tacticool Galil in Israel . . . is an M4. Don't think there's as much "weapons system" design done for the Galil as there is for more popular weapons (AR, AK, HKs etc.) already out there waiting for a US company to import or clone.

Thanks Ian, my Galil doesn't have those, but I don't plan on messing with that gun. It's still NIB wtih the original box, owners manual, etc.
I wanted to mount my sight on my Golani. I bought that one for fun. The Golani just has the plain cover with no type of mounts or area to put one on. I would appreciate any input, thanks guys.

Hey guys, thanks a lot for the suggestions. I knew someone knew where to get the part I needed. Once again thank you.

Special thanks to Ian, that link really looks good. I'll probably order from them the next time I get paid. Mahalo and aloha.:)
