I bought a bushnell trophy red dot to mount to my competition model MKII (drilled and tapped already) and i have a question about what rings to use. Its a 30mm, so the base and rings that came with the gun wont work. I already ordered the weaver base from ruger, and now i'm trying to find out what hight rings to use. I've been looking at the leupold QRW rings, any opinions? Thanks.

Just bought some medium QRW rings off ebay for $49. Hopefully they'll work ok.

your comp should have came with a ruger base and standard ruger 1" rings along with the 3 screws used to secure the base to the predrilled/ tapped holes.
ruger will exchange ruger 1" rings for ruger 30mm rings provided they aren't used.
both the 1" rings and the 30mm rings will fit either the standard supplied ruger base or the extended ruger base.the extended base is just longer for different scopes/red-dots...but the rings should fit either base.provided it has the ruger slots and is ruger made.
what state are you in?

Yeah it came with a base and rings. I didnt know they'd exchange them, all i saw was 30mm rings on their site for $72 :what:.

Oh well, i think this quick release setup will be pretty cool. I might try and sell the base and rings it came with on ebay or something after i make sure it all works.

In MO BTW.

Yeah, it's something like 5 bucks to exchange the rings.

Even though you're Ruger is tapped, you might consider the SoLow mounts. I think those are the best, even if you have a scope mount. My Competition Ruger is tapped and I prefer the SoLow mounts.
