Hi, I try every year for a doe tag and so far have been successful. I do this because I'm a meat hunter and there's more does than bucks so I have better chances. My first deer was a buck though. I was wondering does anyone have their doe mounted?

Oh. I thought you meant something different...:scrutiny:
No I don't, but I don't have any bucks mounted either. I probably wouldn't ever get one mounted though.

my son got upset because we refused to have his first deer mounted cause it was a doe. I worked the hide up and had it tanned hair on and he has that in his bedroom. For the record I haven't had any of his bucks mounted either, just skull mounts or horns on a board.

oh and you guys are too funny!! LOL

Think that might be illegal here
Sorry ChefJeff1 {must learn to refrain from teasing the cook} If you're a meat hunter leave the mounting to the bucks, unless it's like a really BIG doe.

Big?? thought you guys liked your 'does' young and thin??

Promised the kids I'd have their first deer mounted, one was a doe the other a buck. The doe has more elegant facial features and really came out nice. I'll see if I can find some photos to post.

I've seen shoulder-mount cow elk and moose , they look very cool, and take up much less room than a bull. I'd do it if I had the money. Of course, I'd get a carp or bullhead mounted, just to be different...

I go European style mounts; skull on a 1" thick slice of a log....so the does wouldn't look that interesting. But i came here to say, that if you ever go into the Pioneer Saloon in Ketchum, ID, they've got a huge bull elk rack mounted on a cow's body. A bit odd. Some crazy nontypicals too.

I would never mount a doe... because it is too easy to kill a doe. I have never gotten any pride from killing an animal that... acts like a doe does. Not any sort of challenge to kill one.

So how exactly does a doe act that makes them so easy to kill? Are bucks in the rut any more wary than an old doe? In my experience, an old and wise doe is more of a challenge than a stupid buck that has only one thing on his mind...

Yeah, but usually bucks are only careless in the rut. I agree that does are easier to kill, because in most places they outnumber the bucks by a large margin. Thus there is a greater change in seeing one. That may not be the case where you hunt though. It's how it is here though.

What's a piebald?

The day before opening day here, I counted 12 does and 1 small buck where I planned to hunt. I don't think they are easier to hunt but there is more of them and that's why I go for the doe tag, just playing the numbers game. Hunting on opening day is a whole other game by itself. All the scouting in the world doesn't mean anything whey there's people out in numbers. thanks for the responses.

exactly what I was thinking, them old does are tricky.

here we call a 'piebald' a deer thats not a true albino but has some white on it.

I have seen racks placed on does when mounted for various reasons. We have some pretty big does around at times.

There is big doe that drinks out of my pond allot. She has a reddish color that sticks out around here. Not very many with the color she has. She might be one that could be put on a wall.

If you're wandering what a piebald is, look at a thread I started called "Handgunning for whitetails". Someone, (I think his screen name is S&Wfan) posted pics of the hide of a piebald and later in the thread, the whole deer. It is really cool and from what I gather, not many people ever see one. If you do and it's legal, don't let it walk. Shoot it. You'll have a conversation piece for ever.

I don't think a ton of people get their does mounted, but it wouldn't be the first time. Personally I've never seen a doe mounted.
