So yesterday was our annual deer drive, 5 pax, 1 doe and a buck taken in about 6 hrs. in two locations, but we probably saw 20-25 "shootable" deer but, just not the "right" kind of deer.

KS doesn't allow party hunting, you shoot what you have tags for. For instance, I've used my doe tag and could have shot 5 or 6 does, the 1 buck I saw was small and not worth the drag out (I'll shoot does rather than small bucks anyway). One of the guys is a big archery hunter, so his buck tag was used in NOV as did another in our party. We always do this the 2nd week of rifle season once the big bucks have gone into hiding, gone nocturnal and by then it's a hodgepodge of what tags we have left.

So we end up with 5 guys with varying tags, hoping to get the right combinations. At one point we had a "squirrel hunter" wearing blaze orange pushing deer with a shotgun.

Next thing that's killing us is age.. finding pushers who can traverse some of the terrain is a PITA. We get plenty of blocker applicants :) But it's getting tougher when the majority of us are retired army guys with handicapped plates:( I probably put in close to 7-8 miles yesterday when you count ups/downs Vs just horizontal. It's just as bad finding walkers when upland hunting..

We could have covered more ground, but the doe retrieval was a PITA, involving, mud, ropes, a 70 degree incline, and was just about at the boundary limit of the area.

It's a fun event, and yes the 24pt was shot by a blocker while trying to utilize one of his escape routes. He used a old Marlin 30-30 from sears or Wards that belonged to his father and 150grn factory loads at 20yds. (it looks like it was bullet success).

Finally a picture of a weird KS public 24Pt (note, he crashed so hard, both antlers broke off!):

Congrats on the take! Sounds like you guys put in the work and reaped the success.

Pushing is usually my job lol. Im not sneaky or particularly inclined to sitting still for longer than a few mins, so that works well for me.
