Mouse-Gun Shoot-off!

Went to range a few days ago with a Beretta .25 with the tip up barrel.
And a Bauer .25 and shot them both a lot
It was a fact that the Beretta was a mini BEAST with 9 rounds at the ready.
Doing a mag dump at 3" to 8" ,it was head shot heaven.
I cannot for the life of me see ANYONE that could take that and not stopping INSTANTLY,whatever damage they were attempting.
BUT,never would I carry it as anything more than a BUG ---- or better yet a 3rd as a BUG.

I missed an excellent possibility for penitration testing with a mouse gun last night, went out to feed the barn cat and slipped on the sweat pants on top of the clean hamper walked over to my desk and pulled out the Beretta 21 A full of minimag solids and DANG no pockets, only pair of sweats I have without them. Well the barn is inside all the fences and only 60 yards away so no Beretta for that trip.

I am sitting in a folding chair while the barn cat decides between scarffing everything at once or dainty snacking with ankle polishing social time between bites and one of the biggest armadillos I have ever seen steps around the corner of the tack room three feet away. Hand slipping down the right seem of the Sweats and I was reminded I had no pistol. Raring back for a good punt I realized I was wearing deck shoes and so stopped that. By the time I seized a near by turning fork next to a pile of hardening sweet potatoes the thing was headed for the bushes where I would not follow in the dark with a good head start. It got way.

Mouse gun in desk drawer 70 yards away is even MORE useless than a sharp rock!

I know there is no absolute standard for a definition,,,
But I always thought that "Mouse Gun" meant a .22 or a .25 caliber shooter.

Here are my two,,,
MouseGuns.jpg

Taurus 22-PLY and 25-PLY,,,
They are surprisingly good shooters,,,
And have been absolutely reliable performers.

I use a Ruger "Elsie Pea" for every day carry,,,
I just bought this pair on a whim,,,
Fun as all heck to shoot.

But in a pinch I would trust either one as a defensive gun,,,
They won't blow a goblin back ten feet into a wall,,,
But 9 or 10 rounds of HV is going to sting a bit.

I don't know anyone who doesn't stop what they're doing when a mouser gets shoved into their sack or under their chin. Mousers haven't been carried for well over 100 years because they don't work as intended.

I'd agree with your first sentence, but disagree with the second as mouse guns have been and are carried to the present day. But both together in one post confuses me ;)

You misread the post. Thats one of the problems with the written word as sometimes people misread them or the intent. Perhaps I should have written "Mousers have been carried for over 100 years because they do work as intended."

Not really, I read it exactly as you wrote it. But if the above is what you meant, and I am sure that's what you meant now, it would make 100% sense.

I will relate the only story I know about the 25 ACP and it's effectiveness. Back in my working days I stopped in the local sporting goods/gunshop for a cold coke on the way home on most summer afternoons. There were a number of us that did so and talked guns and hunting among other things. One was a state cop stationed one town to the north and he dropped in fairly often. One afternoon the conversation was about carrying 25 ACP while riding a motorcycle as a small and handy gun for self defense. He told us about hauling the same person to the ER on three separate occasions for a gunshot wound inflected to the chest by a 25. Said person lived over every wounding. I suppose he finally got the point after the third time.
