"Move to a Better Neighborhood"

The use of force to protect property has very specific qualifications in TX. I hope someone living in TX knows them. Also, the statement that everyone has ... is simply bluster and we don't need such. Find another forum to strut around.

So true. It might look to be a blanket authorization at first blush, but upon reading more carefully one finds it to be actually quite restrictive.

The don't answer the door suggestion sounds good but....
I have had several officers tell me criminals often do this to see if you are home then go around back and break-in. I would make sure I'm ready for this eventuality if it does happen.

Mas Ayoob does have good advice on this very subject. Basically, answer the door but don’t open it.

Not to belabor the point but telling someone that they should move to a better neighborhood isn't the same as telling someone they really shouldn't be wearing that outfit or voting in that direction. If someone told me that I should move to a better neighborhood, I would expect them to offer some cash so as to make it possible.

I've lived in Washington, D.C., and in New York City and a couple of other major cities including the French Quarter in New Orleans. There is no such thing as a safe neighborhood in any of those places. My point being that it is probably best to just be as prepared as you can be no matter your neighborhood. Mean people are just that.

Moving a similar discussions about the 2A for those of us in CA that want to enjoy the shooting sports with far less restrictions. There is a myriad of reasons why "move to ____" while simplistic is difficult. Weather, work, family, etc, are big factors along with crime and quality of life. Those with medical needs is yet another high consideration.

I've been pondering a re-location the last 10 years and I'm at a wash in one for another. I may cut expenses in one area but spend in another. Weather for those of us accustomed to being in So. Cal coastal areas are not as easily matched in northern climates nor in southern areas of the country. I have a buddy that left Seal Beach to try different areas of the country and he's moving at 3-4 year increments. CA is not friendly to his business either so that was a motivator for his move.
If you're not absolutely tied to living in the US, there are places like Portugal and Spain that offer SoCal climates, much less crime, slightly slower pace of living, etc. It is NOT something I have ruled out once my wife retires.
