First there was THE FOG...and people were terrified, then came THE MIST..and people were terrified, coming soon from BlankSlate productions is THE DRIZZLE... Terror not only has a name it is also just a bit chilly. Wear your hats people, it's a little wet out there.
Ha Ha, I read a book by Dean R Koontz about two years ago that was about a forty days and nights rain coming down.
That was one wild ride of a book. Made most of King's stuff look like Dr Seus.

I'd forgotten the title so I looked it up, its "The Taking".
Which sort of reminds me of Bart Simpson's favorite Horror Film "The Bloodening"
When I first saw adds for "the Reaping" I flashed on the image of the Bartman looking up at a Maurqee that read "The Reapening".

I'm just about burnt out on modern Horror Films. Give me the long forgotten classics any day.

I just got back from seeing it!

I enjoyed it but as with every King adaption the novella was far better. Everyone cheered when that got saved the kid from that evil woman at the end, using his gun! So no I don't see it as being an anti-gun movie in the least, if it wasn't for that one gun they had it could have been a lot worse early on for them. Honestly though I would have tossed that raving woman out the door after about two hours with her.

As far as the religious aspects of the movie goes, sure some may take offense but I'm not religious so it didn't bother me.

Honestly I wouldn't have given up like they did at the end, bring on the monsters I'll keep fighting till they bring me down:cuss:

BTW I loved the Gunslinger painting the main character was working on when the movie opened:D I wish they would make that into a film but honestly I don't think its possible to fully capture the scope of that series, it would have to be many films.

No kidding. I just finished the Dark Tower series about two months ago, and I'm going back through all my other King books and looking for the connections. When I saw the painting Drayton was working on in the opening moments, I said "Haha" out loud (not laughing literally said " Ha ha") and got quite a few looks from the crowd.

THE DRIZZLE... Terror not only has a name it is also just a bit chilly. Wear your hats people, it's a little wet out there.

That's the funniest thing I've seen today!

I'll probably rent the movie. I remember reading the novella when it came out.

It's kinda funny that this movie is "spot on" with regards to firearms accuracy. In his books, King is notoriously sloppy about firearms details. He's kind of the anit-Stephen Hunter in that way.

Pretty much every EOTWAWKI movie is pro-gun even unintentionally. It is hard not to be pro-gun in a survival situation.

Which one would think that logically if disasters aren't expected, and one is usually caught off guard when in a survival scenario that having ready access to weapons would be a good thing.

The Mist wouldn't have been 1/10th as scary if they had been armed with more than 1 revolver and 12 rounds. If anything the reason it was so creepy was because everyone was disarmed and powerless to do anything to save themselves or others. They could only look on in horror as the things in the mist ate/maimed/killed people.

The movie would have been totally different had it taken place in a Super Wal-Mart with a stocked gun rack, bows, crossbows, machetes, axes, and sledge hammers.

Uh, you are looking at movies to be accurate in their portrayal of proper firearms handling??

So WalMart guns against that thing at the end (spoiler), what round for something that size?

BTW, Stephen King in a recent interview for Time suggested that Jenna Bush volunteer to be waterboarded so she could report to her dad whether it was torture.

Now how about Beowulf - what gun for Grendel? I would suggest that you want fully auto AP 308s at least. Also, set up a 50 BMG aimed at the door of the Mead Hall.

"Stephen King: Now for my 300th novel, a couple... is attacked... by a giant lamp monster...... ooooooooooooohhhhhh....... scary..... ahhh... ahhh... ahhh"

- from Family Guy

I saw an awsome horror movie just recently called "Vacancy". If you haven't seen it, you should.

Any OP ED piece that uses the term "liberal" should be taken to be progun, even if there is no mention of guns. People like this are 2 dimensional.

Okay I saw the movie.
My wife and my friend's wife were both going "oooh, yikes, etc".

My friend and I were... "pile up dogfood bags, THAT'S your idea of DEFENSE?"
Admittedly, stress causes people to do weird things but man it seemed like a lot of those folks were SLOW to react and didn't do much planning ahead.

But regardless, it was a fun movie to see.

On a more THR topic... we had to switch to a different (smaller) theater and a different time though because the first theater we went to -REGAL- apparently doesn't want "our type" there (no-guns signs) so I handed 'em the no-guns no-business card and we left.

(Kudos and thanks to my friends for backing up my stand on that matter and leaving with me).

My teacher even commented many times about how his gun views were in conflict with his other liberal views, and how his liberal friends did not believe that he was a member of <gasp> The NRA. Perhaps Stephen King is the same way.

Sounds like King could be one of those libertarians. :)

Stephen King obviously doesn't have any problem with arming his literary characters. He seems pretty ignorant of firearms, though.

Slightly off topic, but somebody mentioned the Dark Tower series...

In the Dark Tower series there were lots of incorrect gun details. The main character carried a pair of revolvers which were alternately portrayed in the book's illustrations as Colt 1851s and Colt 1873s. The revolvers are described as being fanned like single actions, but I got the impression that they were sometimes fired just by trigger pressure, like a double action. They also had swing-open cylinders with colt-style cylinder latches.

The book also featured a .44 magnum Ruger automatic pistol (that doesn't exist, does it?) and an 8 shot .40 caliber single action army.

There were other weird guns described as well, which don't exist to my knowledge.

Some of the guns, like the main character's revolvers, were from an alternate reality/postapocalyptic future-type world, though which may excuse their weirdness. Others were from the regular world and were obviously just incorrect.

It bugs me when somebody writes a book which prominently features firearms, but they fail to do any research on the guns they're writing about.

Still, that is a great series of books. It would make an AMAZING series of movies if it somebody ever had the interest and funding to do it right. It would take a mess of feature-length movies to even come close to capturing the story, though.

I just watched this movie from Netflix last night.
IMHO, you are looking way too hard at the movie to get an anti message out of it.

Edited at ZombieHunter's recommendation

He used a Colt magnum carry, right?

WTB Spoiler alert? I did see the movie, but wow man there are going to be people who haven't. Please edit your post and put ample space for people to read "Spoiler Alert" and skip if they haven't seen it.

Otherwise I really liked the movie and I don't think it had an Anti message and I think the ending was amazing

LOL- good edit.

I liked the film.

I don't see it as anti as, in pretty much every zombiclype EOTW book or movie, the protagonist's first or second task after TSHTF is grab a weapon so they don't get munched on.

In the Cell, the protagonists praise gun control for keeping guns out of the zombie's hands and the next day they are scavaging houses for rifles. LOL! The guns were good enough for "the good guys" but thank god everyone else doesn't have em!

I have seen Steven King state in interviews that the availability of guns is the cause of high crime in the US. I think his stand on gun control is not equivocal, but he may feel such laws should not apply to him. He's still an enjoyable writer, though the factual errors he makes about guns in his work are frequently laughable.

I like his writing. He is one of my favorite authors. I suppose youre right- control guns except for him ( and the protagonists in his books :) ) . But is a pretty short story when the protags are faced with something dangerous and they can only defend themselves by giving them dirty looks. And the Gunslinger series is pretty much all about a pretty pro-gun fellow from another place and time.
