Moving And Need Some Info (PA)

Well, after spending almost 20 years "stuck" in New Jersey, I finally escaped and moved back to my old stomping grounds of Connecticut two and a half years ago.

However, due to personal and family concerns, my wife and I will be leaving CT shortly and moving to Schuylkill County, Pennsylvania (around the Pottsville area). I would really like to find some good places to shoot, gun clubs or ranges (the only thing I hunt now is paper ), stores, etc.

I know I'll only be a few miles from the HUGE Cabelas in Hamburg, but don't know too much about the rest of the area. So looking forward to exploring...

Oh, and I have my Non-Res CCW, just have to get it flipped to a Resident permit.

Thanks - I've travelled around eastern PA (mostly Bucks and Northampton Counties), never spent much time past there.

Do as glassman says..... The PAFOA is the place for all your answers/making friends and contacts!!

I am in Berks myself, right on the Schuylkill County line....very familiar with the area. Lots of "good" shops with good reputations close by and there are many clubs to choose from and the membership prices are very decent.

In addition, once you know your way around, there are many places in old stripping areas that folks shoot at.

Getting your LTCF should be a one stop shop at the courthouse.

Hope you decide to stay for the long term, the area is pretty decent.

Ya - we got Cabelas..............but I'd sooner burn my money and to heat the house than used it on over-priced merchandise!

You are going to be very near one of the BEST ranges I shoot at often: http://www.ontelaunee.org/ Ontelaunee Rod & Gun Club just east of Pottsville, in New Tripoli, near where state routes 143 and 309 intersect.

Ontelaunee has a BEAUTIFUL facility! I'll be there in two weeks for the PA State Championship IDPA match.

Probably something around a 40 minute drive for you, but the range facilities, match opportunities, and club members (the ones I've met, anyway) are fantastic!

Definitely check them out!
