I just bought another LnL ap press so that I could dedicate one to 9mm, since it's the only caliber I really shoot in high volume. I was disappointed that when I mounted my dies to the new press, that they were adjusted too low and the ram would not raise up completely.

Does anyone know a way to fine tune the ram height so that I can use the same dies on both presses without adjusting?

I don't think so. It would be expensive to machine the ram to a specific length. I had to put a new toggle on my Hornady L&L single stage press. I had to readjust all my dies. I was surprised that i had to do that.

Find a source for shims that will fit over a 7/8-14 thread. Adjust the die for the press that has the lowest die setting. Then figure a shim pack that will raise the die the desired amount amount for the other press.

The shims would go between the die's lock nut and the L-N-L bushing.

Add or delete the shim pack as the die goes from one press to the other.

Thanks for that link, that's perfect. Except I need to make 5 rather than 1...

I've also been considering buying an LnL bushing for my Rockchucker, but I haven't bothered because of the interchangeability issue. This is encouragement to do that as well.

OK if one press is going to be dedicated to 9mm why do we need to set up the dies to use in both presses?
Why wouldn't you just set up the 9mm press with 9mm dies and set up the other dies for the other press?

Just asking.

I actually thought of that when I was typing the original post...

I could argue that it might be easier to shim the new press than to re-adjust 20 dies. But then an astute person would just say, "then just swap your 9mm dies to the new press, dummy". And they would be right.

No great reason then, I guess, except I may decide to swap things around in the future. I figured if there's something I can do now to make my dies swappable between the two, then now is the time to do it.
