This summer I'm moving down to Arizona for some work, somewhere around Phoenix, probably Tempe is where I'll be renting a place.

Is there any rules or regulations I should know about before heading down there? (Washington State resident)

Also are there any good, reasonably priced ranges around? I mainly shoot trap, but I am also interested in Skeet and would like to get into some long range rifle stuff.

Thanks guys!

go to www.azgfd.gov/basf. ben avery has about everything you could ask. there are usery pass and phoenix rod and gun club outdoor ranges, shooters world indoor range. and an indoor range in scottsdale.

You can carry w/o a ccw, so thats a plus. AZ has some of the most relaxed firearm rules around. We received a 0 from Brady.

Welcome to sunny Arizona! Your coming to a gun friendly state. Ben Avery is a very nice shooting range. Plenty of gun shows, shops and THR folks here that will help get you settled in. Holler at us when you get here and we will see what we can do to get you spun up on Arizona offerings. I'm way down in Sierra Vista, close to the border but get up to Phoenix now and then. Congrats on your move.

you're lucky to be able to go. I was able to spend some time there a year ago and thoroughly liked it. As has been said, very gun friendly...and the food is pretty dang good too! (I'm a sucker for parking lot taco and burrito stands...)

From the state constitution:

The right of the individual citizen to bear arms in defense of himself or the State shall not be impaired, but nothing in this section shall be construed as authorizing individuals or corporations to organize, maintain, or employ an armed body of men.

You will have to leave your personal army at home. Otherwise there aren't a whole lot of rules. You have to obey posted signs. No carry in a bar unless you have a CCW. No carry on school properties, most gvt buildings, etc.

I moved from AZ to CO last year, and I got a nasty surprise from the legislature this spring. Bummer.

Welcome to AZ sir; you're going to like it here. When you can make your way up a little further North, we have several good ranges 2 in the Prescott area and another in Chino Valley. Open and concealed carry w/o permit with few exceptions as mentioned mentioned earlier in the thread.

The Ben Avery range has Trap, Skeet and Sporting Clays all in a real well maintained setting.
Welcome to the land of the free.

No weird gun rules here. It's kind of a trek, but usury pass will let you shoot all day for $7. If it's a nice day out, you can't beat it. I'd be happy to take you out there as I've added some weapons to the home arsenal that have yet to be fired because of a lack of ammo.

Or you can join for a year for about $90. When you shoot a few matches on the pistol bay, highpower range (out to 600yds), or smallbore range, you get signed off on those and can shoot there all day too without dealing with the crowds at the public range. Many days I had my own private 600yd rifle range. On a busy day, there are two guys shooting blackpowder silhouette, and maybe a couple of SWAT snipers practicing.

Arizona = Gunsite

If you can find a free week, attending a Gunsite class (outside Paulden, 2-hours north of Phoenix) would be great for you. It's an experience that few experience, but all who do benefit from.

My mom caught Valley Fever so be careful when windy and dusty out. Was an unpleasant recovery.

:barf:

By the way, I'm not sure if you are a hunter, but there are no wild animals in Arizona, so don't bother applying...:neener:

Ben Avery is very nice, but Phoenix Rod & Gun Club will be closer to Tempe. For indoor pistol ranges, there's a new range called C2 down by IKEA.
