I was offerd a good job in Airzona as a boilermaker in the mines in the Miami Globe area. I am moving to aphace Junction most likely. I was wondring if there is any good ranges near by.

You could go to Rio Salado, big outdoor facility, not far from Apache Junction. I do not like some of the staff at the main range though. One in particular really pisses me off. But its a cheap place to shoot if you don't want to go out in the desert (I prefer the desert myself). Apache Junction is a bit of a drive from Globe/Miami though.

Rio Salado Sportsmans Club

If you join the club you can get off the public range and shoot the other ranges.

I try to make it down for Tuesday Night Steel when I can.

The desert is becoming more dangerous than the range. If I want to shoot in the desert I now have to drive for several hours to get away from all the yahoos. MCSO, PCSO, AZFG, BLM, and NFS are all patrolling the desert for unsafe shooting practices and for littering. They are issuing big tickets and will take your guns if they think you are being unsafe.

Rio Solado is a pretty decent complex with some fun organized activities.
Before over committing to AJ be sure to look into those funky old miner's homes up Miami-Globe. Keep you off that 2 lane commute and dawdling snow-birds.

Your welcome! its good to have born and raised people back in the state. Lots of others from elsewhere complain about the way things are here and want to change it. Home grown Arizonans usually have their heads on straight.
NelsErik,
It has become bad for sure, I have heard about the tickets, though never received one myself, as I take home more trash than I came with..... They will even write you up for not picking up your used brass now. I don't like that policy because I reload and will miss the free brass supply. But I would much rather see them do that than close another area like what happened in Bulldog Canyon. The theme has always been people shoot at a spot, leave trash, it builds up so bad that they finally clean it all up and close it down. Some never learn. I haven't heard about gun confiscations before though....I don't think that is strictly legal for them to do that, just because they "feel" like you are unsafe...perhaps I am wrong and they have some clause that allows for that. Would you mind giving details?

My biggest reason for liking the desert more, is I can call the range hot or cold at my own readiness, and shoot water jugs and such.

Can't say I've been to that part, but I did live three years in Glendale while stationed at Luke AFB from 2000-2003. Open carry was great, however, I only saw it once or twice and I only carried concealed. When I applied for my concealed carry permit, I mailed it out on a Monday and received it approved the next week on Friday. Talk about service!
