Robctwo, your comments sound like a reincarnation of Gov. Tom McCall. Feel free to visit and leave your money, but don't even think of moving here.
______
Joshk-k,
I'll examine Robctwo's comments, because some of what he said is true.
It's not a good place to live.
Totally depends on one's outlook.
No, it doesn't, but it does rain a lot. Portland gets about twice what Eugene gets (120 mi south, 2nd biggest city in the state), Eugene gets twice what Roseburg gets (67 mi south of Eugene) and Roseburg gets twice what Ashland down at the border gets (110 south of Roseburg).
Most people are either clinically depressed or bi-polar.
Probably not, but there are more people so diagnosed in any large, densely populated city. Portland is the biggest city in Oregon.
There is a lot of caffeine addiction.
And this is a problem how?
Portland is an hour or so from the Pacific Ocean and the Cascade Mountains and is on the Columbia river.
True.
There is nothing to do and nothing to see.
Unless one is blind and not interested in anything.
We are anti gun and not very friendly.
Partly true. As with many big cities, the governing authorities tend to fear the people. But there are many friendly people here. There's just a greater proportion of friendly to unfriendly outside of the Portland metro area. Just like in most other states. People are generally friendlier when they're not crowded as closely together.
Technically true, but only because the liberals (many of whom are on welfare and therefore dependent on big government) live mostly in Portland, with a fair number in Eugene around the University of Oregon.
There are hippies and ex loggers.
So? The hippies are mostly in their 60s. And the loggers are ex-loggers because Clinton shut the forests down and put a major dent in the forest products industry.
True - high desert east of the Cascade Mountains. But desert is an ambiguous term. It's not like the Sahara desert. Just doesn't rain as much. Scrub brush, smaller trees, big mule deer.
There are snakes and bears and California drivers.
Snakes, okay. I think he's implying poisonous snakes. Yeah, we have some rattlers, mostly found in the high desert, but not always. A friend of mine shot one that was sunning itself on the road while we were returning from hunting on the west side of the mountains 25 years ago. Bears, just black ones, mostly out in the woods. Rarely encountered, even when hunting. California drivers. Well, yeah, we are right above California. But they tend to lose their aggressive driving habits after a while, when they realize they aren't necessary.
My daughter is living in Urbana Ill and going to school there next year. She reports the weather is much nicer there, and it is flat, so not so many hills to deal with, also not so many trees. You might think about living there. Let us know what you decide.
Definitely sounds like Tom McCall.
