The club hosts a ton of organized shooting events, in fact so many it can be hard at times to just go shoot on the weekends (at least lately). The club is open to hunters several weekends in the fall for sight-in days.

I live in Lebanon and know lots of good places to hunt and fish. Lebanon is an hour/ hour and a half for the metro area. Hit me with a pm if you wanna travel down the valley and see some of your new state.
Please allow me to introduce myself. I am Wheeler44. I am the interim regional coordinator for the Appleseed Project in the WA/OR region.
If we put on a shoot and bring Appleseed awareness to the area soon the "ranges" will be contacting us to hold a shoot there (that is really how it works) most ranges see the value in bringing enthusiastic shooters to their facilities.
If you are interested in working towards setting up a shoot in your part of the region PM me and we'll get started hammering out the details.

Shoot me a PM with some contact Info. I will be glad to work with any interested club members on setting up a shoot. If not at Douglas Ridge perhaps another range in the area. Really all we need some land with a safe backstop and friendly neighbors and we can get started.

Building on 76 acre spread up in the hills on St. Helens
Live in Orinda, CA for the time being. Have decided that CA in general is a Draconian POS state and am in the process of building in the hills above St. Helens (about 25/30 minutes from downtown). Once I am up there and settled will toot my horn and introduce myself to the local well-trained combat operators in the area and look forward to meeting and getting together for some sulfurous-smelling fun (will have a 1000 yard range on the property). Timeline is late July to August depending on when the contractor gets off his ass and finishes my 2400 sq ft. 2-story garage/storage/shop.

We are planning a shoot Aug. 9-10 in Castle Rock WA. Castle Rock is 60 miles up I-5 from Portland.
Lets get together and shoot some. We can plan car pooling, food sharing and camping/lodging.

Douglas Ridge or Tri County?
Hello Portlanders! I Am now in the market for a gun club and was hoping some of you could chime in. I'll list some of my interests.
*.22 caliber will be shot the most. Marlin 39a and a Ruger 22/45 (on this it seems TRC has a 50yd rimfire and DR has only 100).
*I would prefer a range that is social. I don't have any friends who hunt in Oregon and eventually want to get out there. A friendly place where networking is a possibility is important.
*If and when hunting comes up i would want take advantage of long distance shooting.
*My wife is interested in shooting, mostly .22s and would need to feel welcome there. This would include any questions she has answered in a non-intimidating or condescending manner (she would definitely take a firearms safety course. For that matter i would probably brush up too).
*The cost difference isn't a huge concern for us, neither is the geographical distance. We live 35ish blocks southeast of the Hawthorne Bridge.

I spent 28 years in western Oregon before moving to Montana. Portland, OR is one of the most leftwing liberal, gun hating spots on planet earth BUT there exists The Issac Walton League (google it). I'm sure that there is a IWL gun range in the area and I strongly associate yourself with those good folks. Join the NRA, go to gun shows, get a shotgun and going birds hunting up the Columbia Gourge by Hermiston and Boardmen. Good Luck
Clubs are clicky to a degree but only if you are part of a specific group. Cowboy shooters cling to cowboy shooters etc. If you get into a game in Tri County you will find them clicky but then you will find your click.
Look for the part of the club that fits you best, Tri County is a top club imo.

Douglas Ridge is the way to go. We have an indoor range, an outdoor range for Pistol/Blackpowder/.22 call rifle with silhouttes at several different yardages, a seperate 100-200yd range for high power rifle, 5-stand, sporting clays and a 600-1000yd range on long range days.
I personally bring my carry gun and my .22rifle, when I want to mix things up, I set down my pistol, slam a 25rnd mag. in the 10-22 and blast away, it doesn't get any better!

Interesting perspective on Portland.
FIrst of all, I live in Beaverton/Hillsboro/Aloha - and I must say that Beaverton/Aloha are absolutely horrendous when it comes to weapons. Let alone public opinion on firearms.
Last I checked, Portland, Beaverton, Tigard, Oregon City, Salem, and Independence had restrictions on loaded firearms...
Am I wrong? If so, opencarry.org is wrong and must be updated.
If this is true, could you cite sources? I don't want anyt information that can't be verified when it comes to such things, eh?
Anyways, yea people are friendly - but usually it disappears when you bring up anything relating to firearms, as you immediately become labeled a gun toting "fascist," regardless of what you say.
The hippies a previous poster was referring to are the wannabe hippies that roam around portland/beaverton all day long. Many people my age (college) are infatuated with the old hippy mindset, it's like a new fetish.
Also, when it comes to bipolar and depression - yes, cities have high percentages, but Portland has an unusually high percentage, more than others if not the highest. Seattle as well. It's the weather.

How can one be apolitical in Portland..? I find the vultures downtown want to be offended by anything possible, just to make a political point. It's sad, living among so many self-proclaimed victims.

West Linn here, about 20 minutes south of Portland. After 25 years I finally got sick of seeing shootings out my front door and moved to a much nicer area

Excuse me butting in guys but I would like to point to my post about getting a professional trainer, Rudy Waldinger, to give some courses in Portland (Attention Portland Shooters). It sounds as though we have enough enthusiasts to make this happen. If we can get the courses off the ground they could become a regular item at whatever rate we wish to support.

I just drove out to Browns Camp yesterday, and the quarry is posted as no target shooting now because of a "rock crushing operation." The sign cites to the OARs re: shooting but not one of the subsections appeared to apply.
Oh, well; the drive was nice enough, but it was very disappointing to see a no shooting notice when no work was being done.
