Moving from AZ to UT. Hiring a local licensed mover to move our belongings.
Should I let the Moving company move my guns & ammo. Or should I take it with me in my personal vehicle?
I don't want to break any laws...
Any tips or suggestions?
Thanks!

Guns: take pics and inventory by serial numbers. You pack, they confirm and add to inventory.

Ammo: How much? It is heavy and will cost a lot to move. And some companies won’t move hazardous materials. So what makes sense?

NO! I have moved several times across country using the major moving companies. And, your stuff is moved from truck to storage facilities, back to truck, maybe back to another facility. i’ve also had stuff go missing.

Laws, there is a law that says you can move firearm from state to state

Firearms Owners Protection Act of 1986 aka “The Peaceable Journey Law

Actually, the right answer is “it depends…”

How far is your move? How many guns? How much ammo? Are you going door to door or have a temp living situation between them?

I doubt they will take your ammo or any hazardous materials, propane tanks, etc., so you either move them yourself or you sell/give that stuff away.

Guns, I’d probably trust most to movers and carry a few for CHL and HD. But much depends on if I’m moving door to door or have temp storage en route.

I would not trust a moving company with anything small, valuable and easily stolen. That includes firearms, cameras, and computers. They often hire local temporary help to load and unload, and some of that help is a bit sketchy.

Welcome to Utah! You will probably like it here.
and it’s one state away! drive your Good Stuff across!!! lol do it twice if need be. Let the movers move the safes

Add tools to that list as well. I was working overseas when they moved our household and lost some good wrenches.

You have decide if you would be satisfied if you had to settle for insured value.
I like most of us , own some items that have intrinsic value and cannot be replaced, per se.

Ammo can be replaced.
I would move my own firearms.

Utah is very gun friendly. The laws are very favorable. Nobody is going to be concerned about unloaded firearms stored in your trunk or your small U Haul.

I suggest that you start early in the morning and make the trip in one day. There is plenty to see and do a long the route, but trailers and parked cars are frequently targets for thieves, dang 'em.

If you happen to hit Beaver around mealtime, The Creamery is a nice stop.

What city will you call home? I may be able to suggest some firearm related resources.

Great! Good to hear. Moving to Loa, been to the Creamery in Beaver, love their blue cheese and nacho cheddar cheese ...
Thanks!!!

I'll admit, I had to look up Loa.

If you range as far north as Orem, Gunnies is my favorite stop for firearms and reloading supplies. But it sounds like you may already know that.

Happy travels and enjoy your time in small town Utah! There is a lot that is good about small town life.

And YES!! There really ARE palm trees in Utah! (St. George, bottom of the state on I-15 )

Sorry, couldn't resist.
