So,

Set Up:

Last Sunday my Mother was shopping for weekly groceries at the local HEB not 2 miles from my house. When she noticed several men suspiciously hovering around her automobile. When she glanced back at the men they began to slowly move around as well as began to glare down back at her. Thinking this was slightly odd he quickly notified the manager about the situation and was quickly privied to the information that the same men had been kicked out of the store for attempted shoplifting but the police had not been called they were simply removed. She finished shopping and given her heightned awareness she was escorted by the manager to her car and then left.

The Rub:

Both my parents DO NOT carry and I am wondering if this is a proper time to pursue not only my CHL but to begin training with my parents to obtain theirs. Cato the Younger is a close personal friend of mine, knows my parents well and has stayed at my house numerous times and we haved discussed this situation in detail and I am here to ask the advice the rest of you could possibly empart onto me concerning my approach to situations such as the aforementioned.

thank you.

Guess you might broach the issue with them. It's up to them how they feel about carrying a firearm and being prepared to use it on another human. Sounds like you've pretty much made the decision for yourself.

A time like this may (or may not) be the best time to bring up the subject of personal defense. I'd at least raise the issue with them and take their temperature. I wouldn't push it if they react negatively.

I would very easily bring up the issue. If you meet any resistance, than quite. I view anyone who would harp on someone about gun ownership to be the same as those people who stand on corners and yell that we're all going to hell if we don't go to thier church. What you should do is definately congratulate her on her personal awareness, and encourage her to further that aspect of her defense.

You need to have a long and thoughtful discussion of whether she is ready to kill people. That's the core issue of getting someone to carry. Not the type of gun or ammo or holster, etc.

Are you willing to use lethal force? If one is, then a discussion of training and carrying is appropriate.

For the interim, get her an OC if she doesn't have it.

I know folks who just don't want to kill people - spare me the sheep commentary - it is a serious issue. We see people freeze in training.
