Well whats the best way to have a rifle function as a varmint and deer rifle? Im thinking on something in 6.5 swede, and since the 6.5x55 SE has alot of ability as a varmint gun, id like to take advantage of that and wipe the local coyotes out.
If i scope it, how would i arrange it so that i can simply be out in the yard target practicing with deer loads, see a coyote and simply throw in a coyote cartridge and get the coyote the first hit without having to do anything complicated other then load and fire?

When you say multi purpose rifle, are by chance intrested in a "scout" with forard mounted sighting/scope and a a general lightweight, short lenght, and fastin the hand?

Look at an AR in 6.5 Grendel or 6.8mm SPC. It'll knock out both varmints and deer, plus it's a hoot at the range and would come in handy as a self-defense piece if necessary.

a 243 with 75 grainers, with either detach mags, or blind mag. such as an old remmy 742 for semi auto, or a killer 788, if you can find one. the 6.5's are pretty heavy bullets, I don't even know if they are made under 120 grains, and really that is overkill for any varmint , including coyotes.

Ive seen the ballistics table for 6.5 swede, and the 80-98 grain vmax/nosler partition type hollow points are really really good.
Ive seen a hint that people have been reloading 6.5 swede with a sabot projectile in the .223 diameter range.

As to a scout rifle, im not sure on the idea as in the past ive done better with longer barrels.
