I don't know if they exist, if they are even possible or this is just a dumba$$ question.

Does a red dot exist where you can change the reticle and have each reticle zeroed at a different distance? The red dot I have now and really like on my AR (Lucid HD7) has 4 reticles and all of them zero at the same distance.

I don't get to the range much so I'd like to make the most of my time and if I could zero a reticle at 25, 50 and 100 yds and just click between them it solves the issue of remembering hold over / under based on my zero and target distance. I know there are optics with bullet drop compensators on them but aren't those mainly 3x or more?

Does something like this exist, is it a pipe dream, would it be too expensive to make?

Do I just need to suck it up and just train more with the rifle?

Thanks,
Chuck

Eh, pipe dream material.

Zero at 100 yards, your holdovers with 5.56 in between will be simplified, and your drop is fairly simple past that as well. See here.

Those don't exist, because the size, cost and weight issues with having four different erector systems would be prohibitive.

There are several 1-4x, or 1-6X scopes with BDC's in a varity of price ranges from Primary Arms through Nightforce and everything in between.

EOTech makes some HWS with BDC's.

Or you can learn to estimate range and memorize holdovers.

FWIW, I really like BDC and range estimating reticles ever since I first got a POSP, and run 1-4x or 1-6x variables with BDC reticles on my general purpose rifles. Strictly for use under 100m I switch to red dots. I do lose some speed with a scope on 1X and the reticle lit up, but not all that much, and I get all that speed back w/ some extra accuracy at unknown ranges over about 200m or so. (That's where my personal estimation abilities really start to flag) As always, YMMV, and practice a lot with whatever you get.

Thanks Guys, as I thought, it was a pipe dream.

I took a carbine class a few weeks back and they had us zero @ 50/200. I'm good from close range out to 50 yds with hold over but can't get the hang of 100 yds. Guess I'll just have to keep practicing, what a shame, or get a scope with a BDC. Or maybe I'll just keep the red dot as is and zero my iron sights at 100yds. Where there's a will there's a way and most cases relatives.

Where you zero depends on what you want it to do. I zero my issue M4 at 50/200 and can hit torso size targets with no hold over 50 to 250m, hold at throat for 300m. 25m and under (CQB) hold a little high.

My personal HD AR is also zero'd at 50. MY AR with an ACOG is zero'd at 100yds to match the reticle BDC.

For most non-magnum rifle calibers, a 50 yard zero will be in the ball park of "point blank range" (aka battle zero) where you can expect hits on a 10" target with a center hold from 0 to about 250 yards.

So for me a 50 yard zero and a red dot is effective for any range at which I can ID the target without magnification.

If you have a BDC reticle, zero at the recommended range for the load you are using, it should be in the owners manual or on-line reference material.
