Red vs. green reticles on holographic or red dot - is one sharper?

I've been kicking around the idea of buying either a Holosun 510 (or the newer 512), or an Eotech for my AR. I currently have a TRS-25, which is fine, but would like to try the dot-in-a-circle reticle.
I was leaning toward the Holosun, because the reticle is sharper to my eyes (I have some astigmatism) vs. the Eotech's reticle. Plus, it's a bit cheaper. I've read that, generally speaking, holographic reticles are not as sharp as a red dot, due to the differing technologies.
Today I read that green reticles (red dot or holographic) are actually a bit easier to pick up, so I've started to think about that option. But ... I am still wondering:
Are the green dots or green holographic images sharper than their red counterparts? Or just easier to pick up?
Reason I am asking is that if the green Eotech gives me a sharper image than the red Eotech, maybe akin to the sharpness of the red Holosun reticle, I would consider it.
Thanks

I have not owned a true holographic sight. The main advantage to a green dot reticle on either a reflex dot sight or a prism optic is that the green dot is easier for most people to pick up in bright sunlight. The reflex dot scopes and the non-magnified prism scope that I have used with green dot reticles did not have notably sharper reticles.

Thanks. A couple days after I posted this question, I stumbled on a review of the Eotech with green reticle. The reviewer said basically what you said above: that the green reticle is easier to pick up on bright sunlight. But he also found the green reticle to be not as sharp, as did others.
Sharpness is key for me (I just don't like fuzzy reticles), so I will probably stick with red. And will probably go with the Holosun (if I can ever find it on a real sale price).

Have you actually examined an EOTech in person, and experimented with adjusting the brightness? The EOTech can be dialed down so the reticle appears sharper, the same as a quality red dot.

Anyway, the green reticle is better in a bright daylight setting, but in low-light or overcast, the red is dandy. My advice would be that if you're going with a HWS, go with quality. And there is a reason SOCOM still issues the EOTech.

Thank you. I have looked through both. The Holosun is definitely sharper to my eyes. But maybe I didn't have the Eotech adjusted correctly, although I do remember dialing it through the briteness settings.
I am still on the fence between the Eotech and the Holosun (510 or 512). As you know, the Eotech is a true holo sight, whereas the Holosun is really a red dot. I've looked through both, and the Holosun is sharper to me. It seems to be accepted "fact," based on what I have read, that true holo sights are by nature not super sharp, due to the technology used in holo sights. (Am I wrong about this?) Also, I have some astigmatism, which can be a problem for holo sights.
Holosuns have a good reputation, and since I'm not going to war with this, I am leaning in that direction. They are also a bit less expensive.
But ... I still would prefer to have a US-made sight on my AR!
In any case, I still have more research to do. And I don't have the funds for an immediate purchase anyway. So no decisions yet.
Thanks again.

Prism sights, “holographic sights,” are generally sharper for folks with astigmatism than conventional RDS’s, “reflex sights.” I’m told this is because the reflex sights are reflecting the beam off of the pane into the eye, such you have the actual beam reaching the eye, not just an image, whereas prism/holo sights are simply an image in front of the eye. Reflex sights are then typically brighter to most folks, but those of us with astigmatism have to choose - do I want a little brighter reticle shaped like a smashed pumpkin, or do I want a sharper circular dot with a little less brightness?

I use both, but prefer the prism/holo sights. Reflex sights work, as it seems my bullet goes where the smashed pumpkin is placed when I pull the trigger, but I certainly prefer the cleaner edges of a prism sight.

When set at a bright setting, the red Eotech recticle is not very sharp. As you dial down the brightness, there is a sweet spot that gives great clarity. The center 1moa dot can be seen as not perfectly round and may even have points at the perimeter of the dot, which can be used for additional precision.

I have not personally looked through the green Eotech recticle - so there's your grain of salt. Most people can see greater definition with high contrast shooting glasses which have a rose (red) base color.

Even on my cheapo red/green dot (TRS25 equivalent), I much prefer the green dot!

Thanks all. I am going to have to take another look at both the Holosun and the Eotech. I do value sharpness over brightness (as long as it's bright enough), so I will take another look when I can. And will also review the green vs. red dot.
Thanks again.

Not sure if its just my eyes, But i have a green dot on a ar15. I like the green alot better. Seems easier to pick up thru the scope. Same with a laser, i have a green laser for one of my night stand guns.
