I got a great deal on a collection of four handguns (different model HKs, NIB) from someone who did some panic buying post-SH and later regretted it.

They are being shipped from his FFL to my FFL. Now, I'm wondering if I want to keep all four when I really only need one.

Is it reasonable to ask my FFL if I can transfer one pistol to myself and have the others shipped to other FFLs of purchasers I sell to online? If I can sell the three others individually, I should be able to keep the fourth gun basically for free.

I'm fine transferring all the guns to myself, but I'm thinking this might be more convenient for me to have the FFL ship out directly to other FFLs.

I know the ATF rules are strict and I don't want to give my FFL any grief, so I just wanted to see if this was a reasonable case?

Why don't you talk about the options with your ffl? I seriously doubt he'll say "Oh, I'll gladly lose my business and go to prison for violating gun laws because you'll be paying me a few dollars." He's the best source of advice about what he can do. Keep in mind, for business reasons he may not be the best source of advice about what you can do.

Sure, but ask your dealer before they arrive.

Your request is not uncommon, but be sure to clear it with your dealer and clarify all fees (shipping, storage, transfer) before sending the guns to him.

As stated talk to your ffl first. I have one I deal with all the time and he cuts me a deal on multiple ships.

I don't believe there is anything illegal about your request. The FFL receives the guns and he can send them to anyone else as long as the paperwork is right. Doesn't necessarily HAVE to transfer them to you but I would clear it all with your FFL before doing anything. He might want to charge you a receiving fee and an outgoing fee. It's his choice.

Don't jam up your FFL.

If you're trying to avoid the required reporting to BATFE of of multiple handgun purchases, you should have thought of that prior to buying four handguns.

Take delivery of all four handguns, and sell the ones you don't want to keep on your own schedule.

Jam up the FFL? Let's see, the FFL can charge 1 transfer fee to transfer 4 guns at one time to 1 person one one NICS check and one Form 4473. Or the FFL can charge 4 separate transfer fees to transfer 4 guns to 4 different people....

NavyLCDR,

True, but the OP's FFL has to store the guns (which technically belong to the OP despite his apparent unwillingness to fill out 4473s) and wonder whether he should complete the 3310.4.
