I had my fun with the Lee ALBP, it was educational and interesting, but I'm moving, and I decided I don't want to take it with me. For the price I don't mind scrapping it, it paid for itself. So I'm pretty sure I want to just upgrade to a Dillon, skip the next couple of steps in between. I will mostly be doing bulk 9mm and .223. (Although I may come to trust it enough to do precision rifle rounds.)

So, what are the 'must have' add-ons I need to get to be comfortable with it? (And does anyone want to try to talk me into something else?)

I love my 550 but I would have went with a 750 if I could do it all over again because it has more stations and more options overall. That being said I’m content with my 550 and doubt I will ever change.

Items I recommend are a strong mount, bullet tray kit, out put & brass bins, tool caddy, spare parts kit, and a light. A light like the inline fab sky light or UFO light. The light will definitely help to quickly visually verify every 223 powder charge before seating a bullet.

Enjoy your new press.

All these make life a bit easier................................ :D

The UFO light is the only thing I have on mine but I'll admit I don't use the 550 as much as 650's and 1050's. It's more of a "gap filler" between them and single stage machines because its faster than other progressives to convert.

From trying all sorts of gadgets and even coming up with a few of my own, over the years, I'd suggest you use it as delivered enough to know how it works from the factory. This way you can at least feel for yourself, if and what makes a difference.

For example, if your bench top is flimsy the larger footprint of the strong mount might help spread the load but if its solid, bolting the casting to a couple sheetmetal brackets that lifts it off the surface isn't as rigid as bolting it directly to the bench. Probably why some swear by them and others swear at them, different situations.
