Like lots of us I suppose, I'm wondering that when the AWB goes away in Sept. how do you get the muzzle brake off the end of your AR barrel if it's been "permanently attached" with silver solder?

I have a Bushmaster Superlight barrel and the barrel itself is too thin to just cut and rethread. Either the brake comes off and the threads are useable, or I rebarrel if I want a flash hider. I'm not looking forward to rebarreling but I've got an old style Phantom all ready to go and the brake annoys me.

So, is getting the brake off the barrel possible without damaging the threads...or the chrome lining of the bore?

Thanks for the advice in advance.

Silver soldered on. Heat to melt solder and off it comes. Then again, attach upper to full auto lower and when the bbl turns red, you should be able to pull it off (if you have gloves).

Seriously, let the smithy do it.

I think that even in the superlight barrel profile there is room to cut threads. There is a significant step down in diameter where the threads are. It may however be too SHORT to cut down (if its 16"). Silver solder can be removed by a gunsmith. It probably wont even be that expensive.

Thanks for the input. I'm calling my gunsmith to make a "reservation" for work in September. I think the lines will be long.
