Any opinions in general on muzzle brakes for AR-15 carbines? Brands, installation, effectiveness, etc?

I am willing to put up with increased blast/flash if it means almost nil muzzle rise. Worse case scenario, if I don't like it, I can re-install the flash hider...$30 loss.

What do you guys think?

Cactus Tactical sells an OEM compensator for $30. Is oEM a good brand?

thanks!

Put a quad rail and hang a bunch of junk off of it. That will add some weight and make muzzle rise minimal.

A compensator will really do nothing more than a good flash suppressor will on the 5.56, IMHO.

OEM = Original Equipment Manufacturer

It's not a brand name.

Please provide links to what you want us to look at, please.

GunNut is wrong, as any decent IPSC 3-gun competitor will tell you.

If you're looking for the most effective brakes, look at what those guys are using. They are always at the forefront of technology to help you shoot fast, and quick recovery time leads to shooting fast.

the DNTC gets a lot of use by these guys, as does the Bennie Cooley and the (somewhat outdated) Miculek brake has been the standard with these guys for quite some time.

SEI has a sweet little DC Vortex comp available for the LE6920

cool. i just happen to have a SEI/FEI can and have been debating shelving it in favor of a FSC556/gemtech or surefire brake/suppressor combo

thanks h20

No problem :)

Do you have a .30 or .223 SEI/FEI DC can?

taliv, very nice!

I spoke with Dave Fisher yesterday and he confirmed my .30 can is shipping next week.
It will have a shortened locking collar so that I can run it on my SEI SOCOM 16
and it will also on my DC Vortex equipped AK and any AR that has a DC Vortex.

congrats on the new can!

a word of advise:
I have tried just about every lube known to man in an attempt to make that can removable after use. Most, including things like automotive anti-seize, have resulted in having to beat the can off with a mallet.

The best of the lot, by far, is the machine gunners lube from larue tactical. i'd invest heavily if i were you, and not expend more than 500 rnds or so w/o removing the can and thoroughly cleaning the QD. also, bring a strap wrench and mallet to the range with you.

on the positive side, suppression is decent and it looks super-cool. i haven't weighed them, but it feels a lot heavier than surefire or KAC cans.

Good point on the lube. I use MD Labs XF-7 weapons lubricant and I have some of LaRue's product on hand.

SEI and Fisher have a light weight Military only can that trims about a half a pound off the current cans weight.
Don't expect this item to be made available to civilians any time soon though...
