Muzzle Break

I'm looking for:

A) An 18.5" Barrel for a Maverick 88 (Mossberg 500).

B) A muzzle break

I've seen where Mossberg makes a 16" barrel with a permanently attached break (gives it the rest of the required length), and I've seen some aftermarket breaks.

The "add-on" breaks are unfamiliar territory. I assume that you take out your choke and attach there. Is this correct? I'm not seeing threads on the pics.

Could someone shed some light?

Also, if someone knows of a place that I'm not seeing on GOOGLE, I'd appreciate that, too.

It bothers me to pay more for an upgrade than I did for the weapon, so suggestions/advice would be appreciated.

It's really not needed. Honestly just get a good recoil pad(Limbsaver) and some low recoil buck and you should be able to handle it fine. Besides, the effects of these muzzle brakes on shotguns is debatable. Theoretically there's just not enough gas pressure at the muzzle for the brake to do much of anything, though I must admit I've never shot one myself so can't guarantee it's uselessness. All the same I say keep your money and spend it on something useful like more ammo.

18.5" barrels are common. Gunbroker.com. You won't find any with screw in choke tubes, though. Short barrels and choke tubes don't go together unless it's custom. Yeppers, the brakes replace the choke tubes on those types. The barrel you had on Midway is for a Remington. Your only bet is to pay the Mossberg price for a new one....they don't come up often as used. Folks who paid for them don't want to give them away for some reason.
