I've noticed the muzzleloading barrel that Mossberg makes for their Model 500.....was wondering if Remington ever did the same thing for the 870 Express?

I understand that there were some small issues with powder being blown back into the hammer area on the Model 500.....but I still kind of like the idea of having a barrel for blackpowder usage on my 870.....any such animal?

I am no expert on 870s but I have 5 of them dating back to 1967. Never heard of a black powder barrel for them. There may be some after-market ones but I'm not aware of any.

an out fitt called Hastings made or sold such. I believe they were rifled barrels rather than smooth bore.

I do not know. They only recently caught my attention as a way to have an inline .50 and not have a whole new gun.

They were available for the Mossberg 500 and it occured to me that a single gun with a decent birding length barrel with C-lecta choke for that sort of hunting, a 18.5 to 20 inch cylinder bore with either rifle sights or just a bead for home defense or deer hunting with slugs and a .50 BP barrel for BP season would be a gun for all seasons in the South east. Maybe toss in one or twelve of the three inch shell shrinkers for single loading to keep the inner survivalist happy.

Looking over a barrel of spare barrels for 500's at a shop I was wondering about the possibillity of sleeving a spare barrel for say .30-30 or .44 Magnum or keeping to BP say a .38-55 or .44-40 barrel for a single shot with a full length barrel and workign sights.

I was also wondering about using a spare barrel to build up a BP shotgun barrel for use with shotgun primers as an inline.

Maybe one of our gunsmith school folks or Levi can think about these ideas.
