My “precisionish sorta kinda” build is officially started.

No problem. I would prefer to see some thing epoxy myself, but it’s done very well for what it is in my opinion. To answer the question from your previous post, I am happy with the color choice. There is a part of me that would like to see a little bit more brown in with the colors there, but I’m not complaining. I think it looks pretty good.

Agreed, your photos look better even than the ones on Boyd's website. Those pillars look workable, but definitely will still benefit from glass/JB weld bedding. I like JB because it is more of a gel than Accra glass so I have had better luck getting it where I want it and not on everything else... Definitely grab some clear shoe polish for release.

Thanks again for posting those photos. I'm thinking I will opt for just doing my own pillars when I order a stock for the Howa mini action build I am getting together just to save a few bucks, but those do look decently fit.

I’ve seen a couple of pressed ones before that… Awful would’ve been an improvement. They are well done.. It’s interesting, they put out a instructional video on betting their actions. They essentially do some on the tang, and then some by the recoil log. There’s plenty of room without any further material removal. And the free float is decent as well. :)

Well, it’s about done… few tweaks is all that’s left. I may add a pic rail for a bipod, and I eventually may change out to a detachable magazine bottom metal. 36E4615B-0A76-4FFD-BFF5-0AE0C3565D4C.jpeg E1820E6D-B1F3-4962-BB7B-037ECFD16D8C.jpeg I’m also giving a close up for better color idea. Looks nice, glad it is coming together for you! I am collecting parts for this one's little brother built on a Howa mini action in 6 ARC, so it is great to see another Howa project working out the owner wants it.

Did you end up bedding the action into that stock?

Have you worked with the trigger at all? I like the HACT trigger on my Howa, and was able to adjust down to about 2.5 lb without any modification to springs, etc. It is crisp and would be a nice weight for a hunting rifle but I might play with some different springs to try to get it lower. It seems like folks that have tried it can get down to around a pound give or take a few ounces before it fails a bump fire safety check.

I did bed it.
My trigger isn’t bad at all. It breaks right at 2.3 lbs. that’s about ok for what I’m doing with it, but I’ve toyed with putting a lighter Timney on it.

That is right about where mine is. That weight combined with a crisp break, very little overtravel, and no little safety dingus like a Ruger or Savage makes for a quite nice factory trigger. I like two stage triggers too.

good looking rifle!
I really like Howas, especially the heavier barreled ones (since the actions are heavy anyway). You can also change the spring in a HACT trigger pretty easily go get a lighter pull weight......it just escapes me what i changed them with right now lol. Ill go dig up the old thread and see if i listed it.
