I just went to our local Sportsman's Warehouse to buy a box of 9x18, and I brought my 2 year old daughter, who frankly needed to get out of the house before she drove mommy crazy.

She never stopped talking the moment we walked in the door. The store is filled with stuffed game animals, both full bodies and heads on wall mounts. She asked about each and every one of them. It was hilarious to see some of the other patrons grinning to themselves.

The real kicker came after I had grabbed my box and was headed towards the door. She saw a pink Daisy BB gun, and exclaimed "A pink gun! Iwannah pink gun, Daddah!"

I didn't promise anything :D But maybe in a few years...
 
Actually, that reminds me that earlier today at the farmer's market, one of the kids there was telling his mom that I needed to bring "all the shotguns" over to their house. We made arrangements for Sunday afternoon, which is why I had to go buy more ammo :p
 
My step son turns 8 tomorrow, and he's getting his first shotgun! I don't know who is more excited, him or me.

Nice having kids that shoot, easy excuse for range time and more gun related stuff.
 
A few of the kids and grand kids were here last week (total of 10). One of our granddaughters is 12 and has been after her grandma and grandpa to allow her to shoot grandma's compitition High Standards for several years...(her problem is her dad, not her mom) well her dad wasn't here this time, range cleared and opened....started out with someof the 8" birchwood casey targets, and told her, punch the little red 1" dot (at 25 yards) first shot I would give her $100...should have kept my mouth shut... first 5 were one each in the 8, the 9, the 10 followed by 2X. (the magizines on an Olympic are plugged at 5 rounds) Her 9 year old sister also did well, but nothing like the 12 year old.

Sad part is, she lives less than a 1/2 mile from an indoor range that has Tuesday night ladys free.... I told her mom to take her to a firearms safety class (both go), then a pistol class (again together). Her mom's idea is to try talk the dad into taking the daughter so he would loose his gun phobia. Good idea if she can pull it off. If she gets some good equipment, this little lady could be very very competitive. I know I'm already looking for another Olympic or a Hammerlie something that can match her potential skill given a chance,
 
I was scrolling through gunbroker at revolvers and my daughter stopped me and said " Daddy you should buy that really big shinny gun (nickel colt python with 6" barrel) cause mommy will like it"

I love my daughter. She was 5 at the time.
 
Love teaching the kids to shoot :) My 6 year old goes shooting with me all the time. She absolutely loves it, and isn't a bad shot either. She has a Pink Crickett .22 Single Shot.
 
Can't beat shooting with the kids. You may have found a long term shooting buddy. Better stock up on ammo!

I've got four grand children. The oldest is seven and he likes trigger time. The girls are 4 yrs, 2 yrs, and 6 months. My sons and I can't wait for the time when all can go shoot together!

When my daughter was 4, I painted an old pellet rifle pink, and put safari stickers on the stock. She still has it nine years later, and recently informed me that "she will be using my Dillon 650 to crank out some rounds for her 686". How did that happen? Oh well, no complaints here, or from her mom. Guess I better go check the supply cabinet.
 
My two year old sounds just like yours. I can't wait for her to be old enough to shoot with me. She loves her nerf gun (that so isn't mine for when I'm bored *cough*), but I'm starting to see the down side to her playing with those...at least for right now.

Every time I go look at targets and ammo at walmart or a local gun store she gets so excited. She especially loved the new targets at walmart that had giant insects printed all over them. Silly kids.
 
A while back my two year old was pointing at the pink Cricket in the case saying "Daddydaddydaddy! A pink wifle! I wanna pink wifle!"

She is now four, and I recently got her a pink Cricket as an impulse buy. She's not ready for it yet, but I do have it in the safe for when she is.

Ha ha, one of the first full phrases my little boy ever said at about the age of 3 was "Oh, daddah, I wiwwy want dhat pink boom right there, can you pay it for me?" :p

He was referring to a pink Cricket! So even the boys like the pink ones when they are very young. He's 4 1/2 now, and slowly he is gravitating to more boy-like finishes. He, like his daddy, seems to prefer the blued steel ones. He was really liking the epoxy black finish CZ-75B I bought last weekend. I showed him my S&W Model 28 and asked which he preferred. He thought about it and just said "both".

Mainly, I am concerned with teaching him safety at his young age (basically following the NRA's Eddie Eagle guidelines at this time). So far, he is doing extremely well. So one day I'll start him on a .22 rifle or a BB gun ... we'll see.

I'm resisting that urge with my 4 1/2 year old right now. I know he isn't ready yet, but I just can't help myself!

Just remembered, one of the funniest things I've ever heard him say resulted in water coming out of my nose.

He and I were having burgers at a local fast food joint when he spotted a guy wearing cammo pants. He was really studying this guy, with a thoughtful expression on his face, for a good minute or two before this gem came from his mouth with a perfectly straight face and matter of fact tone:

"Oh, he's wearing hunting pants. <3 or 4 second pause > He is going to go into the woods and fight a deer, and he is going to punch one in the face."

The mental image that popped into my head was too much, and I practically sprayed water all over the table.

Yep, kids say the darndest things.
 
My two year old still isn't much of talker, but everytime he sees me get any of my guns out he points at them and says bang, bang, bang, bang. Yesterday I got home from the range and he saw my earmuffs and insisted on wearing them. It was adorable. I can't wait to teach him. He also goes crazy when he sees my fishing gear, I think we are going to have a lot of fun in a few years.
 
My 6 year old with my Ruger 22/45. I got him a Cub .22lr at Christmas when he was 4.5 yrs. It's great taking him to the range with me. :)
