Picked this Chief's Special up locally in a private sale for $200. Model 36 no dash. Pinned but not recessed. Serial Number 393XXX dates it to the mid 60's. Locks up tight and shoots great. Prior owner must have coated it with something like truck bedliner, its pretty ugly. Even though I am sure there is some inner beauty to this gun, I kind of like this ugly duckling just the way it is. :D

Just so you know.

No S&W .38 Specials were ever recessed.

Only the .22 RF, and .357, 41, and .44 Magnum calibers ever had recessed chambers.

Killer Deal!
Great price!
Just like all the indestructable finishes so popular today.
I love Chiefs!

Who taped the grip , Clemenza?

"I don't want my brother coming out of that bathroom with nothing but his dick in his hand!" Sonny Corleone

Lol, that was me. Quick tape job before I took it to the range. Grip has a few gouges on top of that nice paint job.

Btw, just watched the Godfather a few days ago. Great movie.

Sig , you did great on that acquisition. I have a nice 36 in nickel , and I have a great deal of respect for J-frames in general - and the Chief in particular! At that price I would have bought it if it was painted.

The tape did remind me of the scene in the Corleone basement , Clemenza preparing Michael for his hit...)

Looks like Al Pacino's drop gun from the restaurant scene in the Godfather, with the tape on the handle so it doesn't leave fingerprints. "I left it loud"... :D
