My .22 really impressed the hell out of me today.

Well, maybe not the gun in general but the caliber/ammo as a whole. I took my wife and her dad out to the range today to get some shooting in. I took my CZ-452 SUPER BRNO out with me and started to plink at this filing cabinet the was sitting out in front of the 100 yard berm. I shot at the front part that only had three holes in it from a previous shooter. I started to make some of my own. I was shooting Remington 36 gr. high velocity value pack from wal-mart. I was really impressed with the fact that these rounds penetrated the front of the filing cabinet. Although they did not exit out the back, they managed to punch a hole that was bigger than the original diameter of the bullet in a piece of steel and at 100 yards. These are lead bullets and not jacketed. My guess for the bigger hole was that the bullet must have started to flatted out before making it's way though the cabinet door. I didn't go for groups but shot for the satisfaction of hearing that ping everytime I hit it. My CZ has a 28.5in barrel with no kick and litterally no report from the shooter's end that it is almost a benign shooting experience that masks the power that this little round has. I'm sure this round/caliber would take any small varmint well within 100 yards with ease. Here's a pick. There are two holes that aren't from a .22. This door also shows some .22 hits from my wife also.

Yep, .22 isn't really a slouch.
Last week I was out in the sticks shooting an old washing machine with my Mossberg Plinkster. Machine was about 100 yards away. Shooting without ear protection, I could hear each round hit the washer a half second of so after I fired. Pretty fun.
I'd be interested in seeing some recovered rounds from that cabinet. I'd bet they're pretty well fragmented.

I think that picture illustrates the sturdyness of the human body, if anything. For something like that to be a poor manstopper at close range, we must be made pretty well.
