Hey all, you've all been so supportive with all my stupid lever-questions. I had been eying the 336A at Big 5 for $399, but then the 336W went on sale this week at Turners for $379. For all you people that have $329 336A's at Wal-Mart, our Wal-Marts do not carry rifles, so this is about the best deal going. I am in love with the ammo at Wal-Mart, they had many boxes or well priced stuff, I think there was one for $8.98/20 and then several for around $12.
Is the 336W(I like the 336, its the "W" I'm talking about.) the gun of my dreams, No, can it be with some simple modifications, yes. I'm not in love with that wood veneer, but I plan on shooting it as is for a while and ordering a set of 336C/SS Walnut to put on it, it seems to come out cheaper that way than by buying the 336C which no one around here ever seems to have anyway. Or if anyone knows where I can get an unfinished (But still ready to bolt right on, I'm an amateur wood worker not a gunsmith ) stock/foregrip I have a hankerin to do a lil sanding and staining. Also that gold trigger will have to go, but not right off the bat. And then maybe a larger loop and some different iron sights.
I know some of you have suggested used Marlins, but after going through what was a reasonably painless first import of a firearm into CA I don't wish to repeat that process unless I have to. The wait is longer, there is like a $50-$60 fee involved, etc.
If any of you gun gurus have any suggestions or if I have missed something please let me know, this is only my second (By that I mean not a .22LR) large bore rifle, and first lever action.
Thanks,
RFB
