Just picked up the Sig today from my FFL dealer. It's a non-rail CPO P229 .40. Bought it for $530 shipped + $20 transfer fee. Besides the wear on the barrel and magazines, the rest of the pistol looks LNIB. I can't tell the difference between this CPO and a NIB gun. The finish is flawless, inside and out. It came with with two magazines, lock, manual, and CPO warranty certificate. I sold my all-German SP2022 for this, and I'm glad I did! The trigger is even nicer on the P229. Very crisp SA break. The P229 is definitely an upgrade in every way IMO. I was happy to see a tag tied to the trigger guard that read, "This firearm has been inspected and accepted by SigSauer Quality Control Inspector (John Hancock)." With Sig's spotty QC on their newer production guns these days, this was definitely a breath of fresh air. Why buy new when you can buy a CPO and save some serious $$?

Anyhow, I'm in love and can't wait to shoot it. Range report coming soon.

Now for some .40 porn:

Congrats on both price and gun..

Having three 40cals, two P229's n/r like yours and a Beretta Px4 40..

Both very soft recoil, balance, fall back on-target, and all are forgiving with any one-handed shots, be it strong or weak hand, they all keep on shooting..

IF ya need to lighten up her DA pull, contact Wolff springs, and get one of his main spring kits, 21lb, 20, 19, 18, 17lb, 16lb.. Very easy to change out, and makes a big difference.. My one uses a 17lb main spring, and it is sweet.. as it had a terrible, heavy 24lb factory main spring mixed with a gritty DA pull until the change was made..

Has just over 4000 rounds and not one light strike..

Just need to tell him if you have the long main spring or short with the lower, aprox, 1" plastic base.. And using a Sig Armorer DVD shows how, step by step, to change them out..

Let us know between the 2 which one gains your favor.. I know where I'm putting my money on.. lol

Beautiful, I have to tell you though I'm not a big fan of the slide profile change from the 228 to the 229, I understand why it happened, but aesthetically (the most important thing in the world after all) I prefer the old shape.

It looks very nice though, might be winning me over. Is the USPc a stainless model or has it been refinished?

Thanks for the input LS. I might have to do that. The SA is absolutely sweet. No creep whatsoever, but the DA is a little stiff. I have a feeling the P229 will be a better shooter than the USPc. It feels better in my hand, has a longer sight radius, and a better trigger. I already know I'm going to love it.

NG VI- It's factory stainless. Got it LNIB (probably less than 200 rounds through it) for $660 OTD. Lucked out with this one too.:)

Forgot to mention that I noticed something strange with my P229. The slide stop doesn't catch the slide when I rack the slide to the rear w/ an empty mag inserted. While holding the slide open and pushing up on the bottom of the magazine, I can see the slide stop moving upwards like it's supposed to.

The SP2022 .40 I sold to fund the P229 had the same problem. I've only owned two Sigs so far and both have this issue. Is this normal with Sigs? If not, what's causing the problem? Thanks in advance.

Weak magazine spring.
-or-
Worn magazine latch hole in the magazine body.
-or-
Worn magazine catch.
-or-
...something else I haven't thought of...

Found out what the problem was. One of the magazine springs was in backwards, causing the follower to not lift up far enough to engage the slide stop.

It's all good now. Works perfectly. I'm probably going to hit the range this Thursday. I'll keep you posted on how it shoots.

So, good chance that you put the mag spring in backwards on that one too..

Well, now ya know, Sigs, (and their mags) when taken care of right, work right..

Enjoy your *P229, as, sometimes things work out *for the better

Actually, I never messed with the SP2022 magazines. It did it with both magazines too. I read reports of others having that same issue with the SP2022. Don't know what causes this problem with the SP2022.

As for the P229, I never messed with those magazines either. It must have came with the magazine spring in backwards from the factory. The magazines had a lot of dust/lint in them, so I'm guessing that Sig doesn't really pay too much attention to the magazines before shipping them with the CPO guns. I first noticed that it was only happening with one magazine. So I compared both magazines side by side and noticed that one follower was sticking up further than the other. I decided to take apart the one giving me problems and found that the spring was in backwards. I was like, "Oh that's nice.." lol.

Also, where can I find spare magazines for a good price?

I bought spare mag and recoil springs from them, too. Great service and expedient shipping. Order today and it'll probably be on your porch no later than Thursday, and that's probably pushing it.

I'd also check the Marketplace at the bottom of the forum. They do appear for sale and for good prices, too.

You will be happy with your Sig; it's a great shooter and a great pistol overall!!

At first I was completely satisfied with my P229. Then after I tried a set of Hogue grips on it I knew then I was really satisfied with it.

I recommend them highly.

I have been looking at these two guns for home defense. Which one do you/would you use for your home defense and why?

Gosh, that's a great question. Considering I haven't even been able to shoot the P229 yet, right now I have to say the USP. I'm sure the Sig will prove to be reliable, but IMHO there's still nothing out there as reliable as an H&K pistol. I've owned soo many other polymer pistols out there, and none have been 100% reliable like my H&Ks are. They are truly overengineered, but that's a good thing.

Besides reliability, I like that the USP has a safety/decock lever instead of decock only. I don't like safeties on my concealed carry pistols, but for home defense purposes I prefer a safety on my pistol. Just makes me feel better when I leave it sitting in the night stand drawer. If I had kids, I'd probably rely on a safe anyhow so then the safety issue isn't as important. I also like the positioning of the safety/decock lever, the slide-stop lever, and the paddle-style ambi magazine release on the USP. The P229's controls are a little awkward and not quite as natural as the USP.

If you have medium/large hands like I do, the P229 will feel better in your hand. However, the Hogue grip sleeve on the USPc makes it feel great too. While I'd give the overall comfort win to the P229, the USPc still points more natural for me. The front sight of the P229 points a bit high, whereas the USPc is right on for me.

Personally, I think a full-size USP would make for a better home defense pistol. I highly recommend the full-size USP.40. I'd say go with a .45, but ammo is impossible to find these days. Then again, I just handled one of the newly released P30S .40s&w's last week. What a sweet pistol!

The P229 is a great pistol (will confirm this statement after my range trip), but I still feel that H&K offers a more versatile, better-built, and more reliable pistol straight out of the box.

I say get the H&K first, then find a nice non-railed CPO P229 later on, just like I did.:)

Hope that helps.
