Just purchased a new pistol and I'm super excited about it! It's a non-railed CPO Sig P229. It can be seen HERE.
I'm a die-hard H&K guy, but I recently bought my very first Sig: an all-German SP2022 .40 w/ night sights from Bud's Gun Shop. It was such a great gun for the money, but it wasn't perfect. I didn't like how there wasn't enough room for all 3 fingers when the magazine wasn't inserted (keep in mind I don't have freakishly large hands or fat fingers). Also, field-stripping was a serious PITA. Something else I noticed was that the slide wouldn't lock back while my pinky was resting on the pinky extension of the magazine and putting downward force on it. Needless to say, I sold it to fund something else.
There were some things I did like about the SP2022, however. Primarily, the accuracy was incredible! It was the most accurate sub-4" barrel pistol I've ever shot. I attributed this to the extremely comfortable grip, which filled my hands nicely and provided for an ideal trigger reach when the trigger broke. It also made the .40s&w feel like a 9mm. It was just a pleasure to shoot. It really turned me on to Sigs.
I'm hoping the P229 will give me what I liked about the SP2022, but without all the flaws I saw in the SP2022 design. I don't care for the railed P229s, so when I located this non-railed CPO for $530 shipped I had to buy it!
