I recently acquired my first 7mm/08. I got a Browning X-bolt. Talk about a well balanced, easy to shoulder gun that fits me perfectly. This is it.
I did have to do some trigger work to the gun though. Browning claims the X-bolt has the "latest & greatest" adjustable trigger on them. My opinion-they should have kept the A-bolt trigger. It's much simpler and follows the KISS theory. This new trigger is overly complicated for what it is. It was probably a 5 lb. pull when I got it, and now I have it down to 2lbs. Now that I worked my magic and got the trigger the way I want it, this is now THE go-to gun in my gun-safe. It is fairly light-weight, has little recoil, and if you re-load, I had no problems reaching the lands with 145 grain Speer SPBT bullets and they still easily fit in the magazine. Has a removable magazine which when hunting federal land makes it easy to unload.
My first attempt at reloading for the gun, I chose the accuracy load from my reloading manual, but I changed some components. I was rewarded with a nice sub-MOA 5 shot group @ 100 yards with my starting load! I was over-joyedf. These were the first 5 shots-and it only got better from there.
What can I say-I'm sold on this Browning X-bolt, and this caliber. I have a couple of A-bolts as well, and they all shoot really well.
