So I did a Saiga conversion a while back and finally got around to actually shooting the thing. It fires fine, but feels like something is seriously reverbrating and makes a very LOUD "sproing" noise. My Yugo underfolder doesn't do this at all - solid as a rock and no weird noises. I've checked to make sure everything's properly in place, and as far as I can tell it is - no loose springs, dust cover is properly in place, etc. Any ideas?

On a sidenote, I was very pleasantly surprised by the accuracy. Had absolutely no problem hitting clays on the berm at about 100 yards.

I know on my ar15 I get that sproing noise from my buffer tube. You might want to check your recoil spring and bolt carrier. It could be where your sproing sound is coming from.

Check your disconnector spring, particularly if you put a Tapco G2 trigger group in it. There was a recall on some Tapco G2's a while back because the disconnector spring hole was drilled a bit too deep.

Yup, it's got a G2 in it - I'll take a look when I get home.

The best way I can think of to compare it to something is a Red Ryder BB gun - you know that "hollow" reverb/spring feel when you shoot one? That's what this AK feels like.

That won't make for a *sproing*, it'll make for a full auto sphincter tightening spectacle . .

How did you convert it?

I'd look at making sure all the parts are securely riveted together and nothing has come loose. BSW

I bump-fired the last six rounds in a mag through my Yugo. Even with a pretty firm grip, I still got something like six inches of muzzle rise. Pretty much confirmed my notion that full-auto really isn't necessary outside of a full-scale firefight.

With standard Dinzag kit. I've already checked all the screws, clips, etc. - really cannot see anything wrong with the gun at all, so I'm puzzled. I did forego the "special Saiga conversion trigger" for a standard G2 because it was like ten bucks more and didn't appear to be necessary (I think it had one side milled slightly to make for easier clearance of a pin retainer plate, or something) but other than that it's all by-the-book. My pins are securely retained with squeeze clips.

I get that with my .223 Saiga the closer I have my cheekweld to the dust cover. I just learned to back off and use the stock.

Bump firing is in no way an analogue of full auto.

Maybe, deep down inside, it feels like it should have been an AR??? Seriously, have you pressed down on the dust cover to make sure it doesn't have any vibration in it? If not, do you have another recoil spring you can test with? You don't have a collapsible buttstock on it do you?

No collapsible buttstock. Dust cover is as secure as it can be - obviously has a little slop in it but it's firmly down on the receiver.

Not to derail the thread, but the recoil impulse certainly is. I wouldn't want to rip off an entire mag in full-auto without a VFG.

I was thinking if the dust cover is under just enough tension and not touching the receiver on the side, you may be getting reverb from it when the bolt slams back. If you were to test that, be careful of the charge handle hitting your fingers!

Bump firing a semi from the hip with your thumb in your belt loop or whatever is nothing like a shouldered weapon in full auto.

Odd, I fired an underfolding Yugo on FA a while back and was able to keep bursts of 3-5rds on a silhouette target at 75 yards, no problems. Maybe it had something to do with the fact that you were bump firing and thus the rifle wasn't held tight to the shoulder? 7.62x39 is a cakewalk in FA.

The fix is the same as for the AR "sproing".... grease the recoil spring.

A light coat will do it.

No BHO. I'll try greasing the recoil spring - any recommendations on what to use?

My Yugo spring isn't greased; why the difference? And, will greasing the spring cut down on the felt reverb as well as the sound?
