I just scored 3 .22 bulk packs. It almost didn't happen. The road I usually take home from work was completely blocked from an accident, and my boss let me go home an hour earlier than I've been. So I took a detour through another town that I'm somewhat unfamiliar with, got lost, but eventually found my way. Once in my hometown, I was on my way home, but decided to change course and stop at Wal-Mart just to see if they had anything at all.

To my amazement, they had just opened a shipment of .22 525+ packs from Winchester and Remington. There were 5 or 6 people in line. A guy behind me tried talking me into buying Remington ammo. He said that he "preferred it". I'm like "But isn't it cheaper? Isn't it dirtier?" He was steadfast on the quality of Remington ammo.

So I got up there, got the last two boxes of Winchester, and a box of Remington.

The guy behind me first asked for Winchester, which I got the last of.

So I finally found some .22, any .22. I used to buy one pack and shoot it till it was empty before buying another. Now, these 3 boxes still don't feel like enough.

You should have offered the guy behind you a box of Winchester for triple what you paid. (Sarcasm)

Good score. I'm glad I no longer shoot .22 other than my single shot squirrel gun. My 100 rounds will last me a couple years.

Love a story with a happy ending. I hope to hear a lot more like this in the very near future.

Just happened to be at walmart this morning and got two yes two 525 boxes of 22
That should last my boys for awhile i hope
patients paid off every time i went to walmart i would check and i guess today was the day i beat everyone else
they still had plenty left but I'm sure it didn't last long

Great score!
Some .22lr auto pistols are finicky about ammo.
Mine seem to prefer the Remington Golden Bullet.
But still to find any .22lr around here of any marque would be amazing.
.22lr may just as well be unicorns...

The 22's at walmart for the 525 ctn was 21$
Didn't think that was bad at all
I will be the first one to say that i was surprised on the 22 shortage and was totally unprepared for it,
So i was happy to find them and didn't have to pay the outrageous price " they " were trying to get for them other places.
I had enough to last maybe one more time to the range with the boys shooting there 22's and that's it so they are good to go for awhile.

I'm still going to "rat hole" some .22's if/once I can find some. I've got about 8 bricks RH'd, but would like to have some to go shoot once in a blue moon too!

Was the guy behind me trying to get me to buy inferior ammo?

Almost certainly.

As long as money can be made on gunbroker, 22 will remain scarce. Once the arbitrage opportunity goes away we'll find it back on the shelves.

Ah, the Walmart crowd, lol.

First (and last) time I waited in line for ammo at WM, I was first in line and was talking to the 2 guys behind me. All 3 of us wanted 45ACP, and the clerk told us they had only 5 value pack boxes on the truck. So I told guys #2 and #3 that I would take only 2 boxes instead of 3, leaving one for guy #3. We all agreed, had a few laughs while waiting, then out came the ammo. I said I want 2 boxes of 45, and paid...guy #2 behind me said, I'll take the last 3! He paid and walked out...would not even look at me or guy #3.

I sold #3 one of my boxes at cost. I hope #2 enjoyed his ammo.

It's rimfire. It's all dirty. :)
Seriously, I've not seen a huge difference between Rem and other brands. Sure I've had some misfires with Rem, but I have with the Winchester stuff too.

Good to see you got some. I've been noticing it getting better here as well. Picked up 3 boxes at Wally World the other day, and 5 at a LGS as well. Didn't really need it, but heck it was there.
