So about 8 months ago I bought a bergara B14 hunter in 30-06 on sale at my local gander outdoors and immediately fell in love with it. The action is smooth the trigger is great and the bluing looks fantastic for what i paid for it. To boot it is supposed to be one of the most accurate out of the box rifles you can buy in its price range. But when i first took it out to shoot I couldn't get a 3 shot group under 3 moa. I won't claim to be an amazing shooter but 3 shots in under an moa is a pretty well within my skill level. I tried 8 different factory loads, 2 scope bases, 2 scopes and 2 sets of rings in an attempt to get it to shoot and burned through far more ammo than i should have trying. Normally in this situation i would just rid of the rifle, I have no interest in a gun that wont shoot, but i like this one enough to actually go through the warrantee process. When i called bergara and told them my story they said i had done more than enough on my end to warrant sending it in to be looked at and gave me a shipping label. Boxed and sent. Almost 3 months after sending off I received it back yesterday and just had to go shoot it. They replaced the original barrel with a slightly thicker contour and a threaded muzzle. It only weighs about 3 oz more but now has a threaded muzzle and greater heat tolerance so that's a positive in my book. They also refinished the entire barreled action. I only had some federal powershok with me and a 100 dollar athlon neos scope to put on it but color me impressed. 4&ccb=1-5&_nc_sid=ae9488&_nc_ohc=3awh_eDMyXgAX_-SiFt&tn=29uMtIhLXDElJjyT&_nc_ht=scontent.fmci1-4.jpg
These are both actually only 3 shot groups with stray .270 rounds between (i have some beef with my savage 110). The group to the upper left of the middle is more or less 1/2 moa whereas the one at the top is more or less 3/4-7/8. This is at 110 yards off a range bag and my hand. After getting it POA-POI i backed it up and slapped an 8 inch steel plate at 400 8 times out of 8 before i ran out of ammo. I have nothing but positive things to say about the customer service, the gunsmiths work and the finished product bergara has offered. Even with the wait im considering another bergara.

It is odd that it didn't shoot well. My B15 CM shoots less than 1/2 MOA but I had to go through several different powders and bullets to get it there. Good to know that Customer Service is good, slow, but good. I ordered a 7MM Mag for a friend and his shot 3/4" 3 shot groups first trip to the range. Now I want a 22RF.

From what I had been able to gather I just ended up with a lemon. I had pretty high confidence that it was going to end up working out and everything else i had heard about them has been positive.

So far, I'm 1 out of 3 with them. I bought a B14 Hunter in 6.5CM that shot tiny little groups. But it was a little heavy for the role I had in mind for it. I ran across a great deal on a Tikka that was a pound lighter, was more accurate, and I was able to sell the Bergara for more than I paid.

But the experience was good enough that I tried a B14 Ridge in 308. This was a 24" medium contour barrel. I just never got it to shoot up to my expectations. It was borderline acceptable as a hunting rifle. But I didn't buy it to hunt with. I wanted something very accurate for punching paper at ranges beyond 100 yards. I let it go.

But a couple of months ago I ran across a good deal on a Wilderness Ridge in 308 and decided to try again. This is very similar to the Ridge. It has a 20" barrel with a muzzle brake, fluted bolt, and a different paint job on the stock. This one just felt right, and I really want to like it. But alas, I could never get it to shoot well either. Instead of sending it down the road, I sent it back to Lawrenceville GA about a month ago. Hopefully when it comes back it will shoot as well as it looks and feels. If not, it's gone, and I'm through with Bergara.
