It is nice when you combine good quality components with good conditions.
All of these things came together for me this past weekend while shooting at 1,000 yards.
This is my best 5-shot group at 1,000 yards.
Eric Wallace (Nawakwa Accuracy) built this rig and it shoots and tracks like a dream.
Non-designated BAT action, 1-9 twist Bartlein barrel chambered in 7mm WSM, Nawakwa brake, Jewell trigger, Nawakwa bench stock (6” forend and 3” at the grip), Sightron S-III 8-32 with target dot, and I am using a prototype MAX Rest.
Winchester brass, Fed 210M's, H-1000, and 180 grain JLK's. Redding T-7 press and competition dies.
The 5-shot group was shot this past Saturday south of Sundance, WY at the 6th Annual MOA Cold Turkey Long Range Handgun Match at 1,000 yards and measured 3.8715 inches. http://www.moaguns.com/coldturkey.html
We have two classes in this match, and I shot this group during the Heavy Gun Class (Specialty Handgun weighing no more than 16 pounds and a barrel not exceeding 18”).
To say the least, I am a happy camper-Thank you to all who helped me accomplish this.

Check out the MOA link and I used a 15" MOA last year at the match and had a 5.25" group at 1000 yards with it.
Still not a revolver or semi-auto though.

Someone tell me if I'm correct here, but does that mean for conversion to MOA we can slide the decimal one place? If so, that's a .38 MOA group. That's some uncommonly good shooting!

Very impressive indeed
I know it doesn't have a stock, but how is that a handgun?
I guess he must have thought you were going to do that with a RedHawk???
What kind of glass?

That's a Hell of a lot better than I could with anything at that range.

But I don't consider that to be a handgun (designed to be capable of being fired effectively while standing and using one hand).

Doesn't matter if it's a handgun, except for the category.
Getting ANYTHING to shoot that well, at that range is amazing.
GREAT SHOOTING! CONGRATULATIONS!

It is no different than your heavy bench rifles-still a rifle
Nope! According to federal law, as long as it is not designed or redesigned to be fired from the shoulder, and it is not over 26" overall, then it is a handgun.

Over 26" overall, then it is an "Other Firearm."

Big distinction, too! That's darned fine shooting with a handgun. Fair-to-middlin' with an "Other Firearm" I'd say.

Jim--
If my memory is correct, that "thing" is not too much smaller than your EDC...so valid question.

I want to see a pic of the holster you make for it when you get one of your own.. :)

Better than I can do with anything at 1000yds. Only things I have shot at 1000yds were a mini 14, and a 1911 carbine conversion, man I need to get out to the desert and shoot more.

That is an amazing achievement for both you AND the hardware. And I say this in appreciation of the idea that your win started months back with lots of testing and an almost slavish dedication to the fine details to bring the whole package together.

I'm sorry but you'll have to excuse me as seeing this as in the "other firearms" camp. You've got an amazing piece of kit there. But to me it's a handgun only by way of a technicality. But it doesn't minimize the fascination I have for a fine hunk of engineering.

Chuck Norris will shoot "El Presidente" with it :) Onehanded!

Weird gun. But nice performance.
