hey guys, I though you'd apreciate this. there is a indoor range here in town that allows only new factory ammo to be shot, pistol calibers only. the bulk of there business is law inforcement contracts so the vast majority is .45,.40,and 9mm. they are way out of my price range to shoot at and won't let my reloads in, but I stoped in and asked them what they do with the brass. they said they take it to the scrap yard and get $1.75/lb for it. I said I'd be willing to give them $2/lb for it and they said come and get all you want! so this afternoon I will be going to pick up a few 5gal buckets of brass up for the cheap!

if you have the time you should sort out the .45 acp and offer to flat rate it for $60/1000. Might make a decent profit for alittle work. I bet you could even rig up some sort of sifting device of varying hole size and process the stuff quickly. Thats what I would do at least :) Good find.

I think $60/1000 is too high, especially for uncleaned and unpolished brass. There's much cheaper dealers out there. I buy .45's from a guy for $35/1000.

Dillon shell sorter. $39.95 If you are going to get 5 gallons buckets on a regular basis the may be money well spent.

I have those, bought them from the maker, shellsorter.com. They work OK, but there's a real problem with "nesting", where the 9mm's crawl inside the .40's, and both crawl inside the .45's. And you can't really dump a bunch of cases in there at once, it chokes up quickly.

Haha... to be a putz I'll have to agree with "too bad on 2 bucks a pound." My local indoor range has the same stipulations on ammo, rubberized floors, etc... and fortunately I've been badgering/shooting there long enough that they just started letting me walk off with a 5-gal bucket or two whenever I asked.

I "did" pay for it though - eventually. Word to the wise, take care of those who take care of you. The guys actually stopped saying "ok" and started pushing buckets on me when I brought in 500 rds of loaded 9mm ammo for them last christmas to say thank you. Reportedly supplied all the 9mm they needed for the christmas party.

Used 122gr cast 9mm bullets THEY sell at $58/1000, half pound of 231 an the primers obviously. But I've got shelves of sorted brass in my basement for 223, 308, and all handgun calibers so the 80 bucks I voluntarily invested in their friendship was well worth it. They hardly ever charge me for lane time now too, nice bonus. Until I got generous though, they were indeed letting me snag brass for free :) This year I'm going to do 40SW for them!
