posted this over at the firing line also. just trying to get as much info as possable.

Hey guys I tried searching but I'm not sure what I am looking for exactly. My dad is looking for a 1911 the only thing he told me was... he wants these things

1. under 400 bucks NIB
2. Blue finish
3. .45 if possable but 9mm would be ok
4. does not have to have anything fancy at all (ambi safty, beaver tail, checkering, light trigger pull) or any of that stuff
5. where to buy the darn thing(if its online post up a link, if its a store post up the name where they sell them)

This may sound easy to find but he wants something that he is not going to have to spend more on for it to "fire" everytime he pulls the trigger

He is more interested in the gun going bang everytime then all the fancy extras that alot of 1911's come with.

If you have any questions to help me search around please ask and Ill pass the question on to him and post a reply

This is going to be an excuse to go to the range with his son pistol :D and it will not be his carry or SD or even bed side gun.

I think the only reason he said he wanted a 1911 is becuase thats what he had in the Army years and years ago So the more MilSpec or less the pistol is the more I'm sure he will like it .. as long as it works haha

NIB and under $400? Only thing I can think of off the top is a Rock Island Armory.

Push your limit to $500, and you can get into a Springfield G.I. or Mil-Spec.

Agreed...$500.00

I doubt your criteria can be met. Unless you find an unused pistol be sold used but as-new/like new.

If you can up the max price a little ($475-ish?) you can get into a Taurus PT1911. I haven't found myself one yet but it sounds like they are well built with good fit and finish.
You can check them out on their website and do a Google search to find reviews. Might want to check dealers in your area because buying over the internet can add $50+ once you factor in shipping and FFL transfer fees.

Look for a NIB Norinco. You can still find them for $400. They are better steel then a current Springer, Amscor, RIA or Taurus.

For the money the Taurus does look like a niec piece but I have already started to hear of issues with exploding primers.

Llama is 1911-ish and the price is right.

Not my first choice- but cheap.

Look on gunsamerica or gunbroker.

Thanks for the help so far. I am going to look into the Norinco and RIA if I can only find a local dealer or website that sells them

On a side note... I own a PT1911 with well over 3000 rounds down range with out one single hicup and no exploding primers that I keep hearing about lolI tried to talk him into the Taurus but he does not want to spend that much and feels there should be something out there for 400 or less thats more MilSpec'ish if thats a word haha

$520 would buy a SA GI. Sights are rather poor but they're a good basic gun and look no nonsense. Take his $400 and help your dad out with the rest for all the years he took care of you :D (coming from a father of 6)

With any 1911, no matter what you buy there's a chance it could have issues. That can be said about ANY gun. So buy a good brand name with a good warranty. SA (Springfield Armory) warrantys their guns for life. If dad decides he doesn't like the GI sights, you can pay someone to upgrade them for a little.

Beyond that, if you get a NIB 1911, it's going to be iffy in my opinion.

Called the range I go to to see what they had and he said he has a Colt Trophy Gold cup something or another for $1000 and after explaining that I might buy it for my dad as a gift he said I could have it for $850. I know my dad would flip over that lol but I am a poor humble man and don't have the $850 even though I would love to buy something like that for my dad, its just not in the budget these days :(

there are a couple used old race guns that are compensated for 450 up here in lubbock, besides that there are taurus 1911's for about 650 and some springers for about 500-550. If you look on websites you can get some good deals
