I made this thread so maybe I could get some help from my highroad brothers. I own a Springfield XD45 and a Rock Island Armory tactical. Ever since I got the RIA I have completely lost interest in shooting the XD. The XD is a good gun. But the RIA kicks its ass in accuracy and feel. The price of 45acp isn't getting any cheaper, and I really can't justify having 2 guns in the same calibur when I only want to shoot one of them. Am I crazy for wanting to sell the XD because I love my RIA so much? If I did, I would get something in 9mm. All I'm asking for is honest opinions. Thanks.

Wait awhile before selling.

It's not going to go down in value if you wait till the fall to sell and by then you may like it again.

Sellers remorse is very real... been there, done that.

The trigger on almost any 1911 is an easy thing to love, triggers on service pistols with a striker not so easy. Prices in my area are around $550 new for most XDs, trade in value would be about half that price. For HD the 1911s trigger could be a liability, there is a practical reason for service pistols having trigger pulls nearing double digits. At the range it will be tough to match the 1911 with another type of pistol, at home the 1911 would not be my first choice. In your case the 1911 may be the pistol you show your friends, and the XD the pistol you show your enemies.

dump the XD.

Then throw some dirt on it. It deserves a little respect. And be sure to wipe off the disrespectful little smirk your 1911 is bound to display after you've dumped Springfield's insolent pretender to the throne. :uhoh:

xd 45 = 13+1 rounds
1911 = 7+1 rounds

i'd take a xd 45 over a 1911 for self defense any day of the week because of this.

To me, you keep both. Your only concern is the price of ammo. I hear you loud and clear. I have 2 1911s, and a pt145 all bought when a box was 13.99.

Save up, and get a new gun without trading either. Both guns you have a great quality weapons, and I doubt you will sell for full value.

I have 3, soon to be 4 1911s, I do not own an XD nor am I likely to. I do have a lot of pistols I would rather have in a bad situation than any 1911, with a SIG P226 .40S&W topping the list. A Colt model P will get the job done but would (like my 1911s) not be my first choice. Your XD and Rock Island each have a niche, each is a tool, one better at this the other better at that. Keep both, get a good 9mm like a SIG, CZ, Beretta or Glock, maybe an XD. Nothing wrong with XDs, I just never warmed up to them.

Why did you get the XD in the first place? I ask because if it is a reason that isn't exactly fulfilled by the 1911, perhaps trade in the XD and get it in 9mm instead?

Over a period of time, you may find your interests vary. I'll have periods where I like revolvers and then switch to 1911s. Sometimes, I'll even vary from those. I would give it a little time to see if your interest in the XD rekindles. If you do decide to part with the XD, take your time and be sure you're getting a fair price or trade for it.

Sell the XD to fund your next 1911 purchase. (And yes, there will be another 1911 purchase.) 9mm is VERY pleasant to shoot in a full sized 1911. VERY pleasant. Almost no recoil.

I own a few 1911s in several chamberings, and a few other pistols as well. If I think I might place myself in harm's way, you'd better bet it'll be a 1911 in 45ACP that I grab.

keep them both, too many regret selling a gun they love just cuz they don't take it out much. You got allot of use out of it and now its time for a new piece to get plenty of use. No problem with a spare.

First off, as far as capacity goes for my 1911 I use chip McCormick 10rnd mags. I will take the 3 round loss for more accuracy. Second, I am trying to get away from plastic, striker fired handguns. I think my preferances are a little more old fashioned. Third, I would only lose 50$ selling it. Been looking at Zastava EZ9mm, Tanfoglio Witness 9mm, FEG highpower, Rock Island Armory 38 super (which I would convert to 9mm with a barrel, mags, tuned extractor.) So, basically a 1911ish 9mm that isn't as expensive as an EMP.

I would not get rid of a perfectly good pistol that is already paid for.

I prefer 1911's and own no plastic pistols.
