My Dillon came today.

What a wonderful machine. Have not had a chance to set it up with my daughter buzzing around. Question. The caliber conversion kit for .45 acp. The brass locater buttons have number 1 stamped on them. The shell plate has number 2 stamped on them. The powder flaring tool when placed up next to a sized .45acp brass touches the shoulder. There is a D stamped on this part. I don't see how I am going to get much if any flare. Did I get the right parts inside the conversion kit?
 
No you did not get the correct parts. Call Dillon and get them to send you the right parts. The pins and shell holder should both read #1. The powder through belling die doesn't sound right either. They hire temps to do things like assemble presses and put together caliber conversion kits, and box the units for shipment. At $8.50 an hour you get what you pay for.

Before you start getting on my case, I know how it works, my son worked there for 7 months and was let go because he protested how they were doing things.

Congratulations and condolences. Glad to hear you got your new press, but sorry to hear that they didn't QC it properly before they shipped it!:cuss: Dillon will take care of you but it's not only aggravating but a shame that companies today allow the stagger number of incomplete, inferior, or just wrong products to reach their customers. I don't mean to imply it is a Dillon issue, it's all manufactures in all aspects of our life from reloading equipment, to our cars, our houses, and even the food we buy at the grocery store; we are spending more money and then more time to get it right. Sorry about that rant.

I don't think you are correct. I toured the factory about a year ago. Most of the employees have been there many years. They have one or two people assemble each type of press.

Mistakes happen - Dillon will be quick to react. But, it is not fair or accurate to say that Dillon hires temps to assemble presses and imply one should expect problems with Dillon presses.

I lived in Phoenix for 22 years. I did a lot of business with them. I never had a problem before the last couple of years.

Now you can have what ever opinion of Dillon you choose. My statement remains. When you hire temps and underpay long term employees, you will get things like what happened to the original poster.

I have deleted the following statements so, no, this not all of what I had to say. Thought about it and retracted the balance.
No good reason for a war about Dillon. You are all adults I would guess so the appropriate warnig would be "Caveat emptor".

Hmmm, something is fishy. My 550B that is setup right now for 45ACP has #2 locating pins with a #1 shellplate. Is that what they are sending you?

I was originally equipped with #1 locater buttons, a #2 shell plate, and a D powder/flaring attachment tube. I think the shell plate and powder funnel are for 38 special. I knew this before setting it up because I was playing around with the parts and I got out some brass. The brass would not fit into the shell plate. The case mouth went all the way up to the shoulder of the flaring part of the powder funnel. No way it was going to work. I would crush the case.

Number two (2) pins are for 40 S & W. You either switched them, or you got the wrong ones. #2 also is used for 38 sp and .357 Mag. Any chance you put the pins in the wrong case?
 
Dillon 550 Press

Goose5-Did you get this press new from Dillon or did you buy it used?? IF you bought it used-the components were incorrect. I have found Dillon's customer service to be quite excellent.

My powder pan on the electronic scale would have powder cling, i called Dillon said i prefer the brass pan that is on the ballance scale, they mailed me a new pan right out for free

Grandpa Shooter there is not chance I mixed up the pins. I only have one caliber conversion at this time. I ordered a .45acp conversion kit with the press. Inside were #1 pins, #2 shell plate, and a "D" powder funnel. I think the pins are okay. The shell plate and powder funnel are wrong.

Ernierod yes I ordered new. Dillon has been contacted and the parts are enroute. Thanks.
 
Grandpa shooter-

I do have a 40 S&W kit and maybe I swapped the pins somehow. It runs like a champ even with the #2 pins! :)
